Named after Utah’s rugged 11,000-foot mountain, the Lone Peak NeoShell trail shoes are designed to provide superior traction off the beaten path. The upper features Polartec NeoShell fabric, which repels water and wicks away moisture for exceptional protection and comfort in wet weather Read More
I already have two pairs of the mids and love them, and will likely join this drop, but be aware that although they're very comfortable and warm, and probably outstanding in snow, they are definitely not waterproof - after about and hour of heavy rain, even with waterproof gaiters covering the lace area, both of my pairs have wet through at the front from the top, rather than from the bottom. Nevertheless, I've never had a pair of boots this comfortable. I also have a pair of the mid mesh, which dry very quickly but which aren't as warm.
what i need is maximum cushioning and a wide toe box so as not to annoy my hammer toes..
i just returned a pair of under armour shoes due to a too narrow toe box..
if these don't fix well and do not have sufficient cushioning can i return them..?
forum.thinkpads.comIf a wider toe box is what you’re looking for you will love Altra! Our shoes are foot-shaped so no squeezing or pinching of the toes. I’d take a look at the Olympus if you’re looking for max cushion. The lone peak is our most popular shoe with a medium amount of cushion. I agree that you need to make sure the sizing is dialed before buying!
not fair to try and not buy at a local shoe shop..
if i got that far i would just buy and have done with it..
my 18 year old asic shoes are getting long in the tooth and they and I both show it..
Used these on 250mile JMT hike last year. Never a blister, wide toe box is great, great cushion. And they dry quickly, kept them on for almost all river crossings. And they don't even look chewed up.
Thewy are already fairly wide fitting so men's might not suit you. I have two pairs of mids and a low as well. I have a narrow foot and the women's are slightly wide for me, but I cinch them down and us a heel lock lacing configuration.
Just a heads ups for any new Altra users
these are my 6th pair of this manufacturers shoes and I swear by them
having been used PCT, AT, the Te Araroa along with other thru trails they are awesome but wear out rather quickly.
Robust they are not. Tallus for example shreds the uppers so take care and try to use some micro gaiters to reduce upper wear
enjoy
stay safe
thanks altra!!!!!!!
treal512i have both. the topos lack the cushion these have, but the fit is better and they don't get the "altra fold" flex point in the toe box that always wears out. these also have better tread. i wish topo made a burly one like this...
octavecatAhh yes, after trying on a few Altras for the first time I experienced this "altra fold." I found it to be very off-putting. Still, I may invest in some Altras in the future. My road shoes are generally more cushioned than my trail shoes, so I am encouraged by your feedback. Thank you.
It is interesting that the 3.5 is obviously newer, yet at the same time less expensive than the 3.0, I'm not 100% clear on if they are supposed to be "better" or not. Clearly one of the main differences is that they have mesh tops as opposed to the water resistant tops of the 3.0 NeoShell, other than that I'm not super clear on what the differences are.
rhenomAll of the NeoShells are built on the 3.0 platform. We don't update our water resistant line as often as we update our mesh line. That is why the mesh are now at 3.5 and the Neo's are still at 3.0. They're very similar and I wouldn't say one is "better" than the other. It just depends on if your priority is keeping your feet dry or not. Great question though!
