@ArmourLite Quick nerd questions- since tritium has a half life of ~12.5 years, we can assume that the brightness declines 50% over that same time period?
At what point would you need to theoretically replace the tubes and apropos to that, when were these watches produced?
I guess technically you’d need to know when the tritium was produced, but I’m just splitting atoms at this point.

WatchyoutalkingaboutThe big question is how long the tritium tubes had been sitting on the shelves when they were put in the watches? Let say these watches were made 3 years ago when the tubes were 5 years old. In this case we are only 4.5 years away from the half life. I'm not saying this is the case here I'm just saying it is impossible to predict how long you will have a satisfactory brightness. The tubes start to deteriorate from the moment they were made. Also what if some tubes in the same watch are older than others ? Over time you will see the different brightness.

WatchyoutalkingaboutYou can get T25 tritium vials of 1.5x6mm for very cheap according to AliExpress. Big for the watch but maybe no so bad for a diy.

Unfortunately this is another example of a massively over marked up watch. While I like massdrop even at 199.99 this watch costs a bit more then a Luminox Tritium PC cased dive watch. Between the two Luminox has a long established record of reliability where as ArmourLite does not.
I'd suggest if you're considering this go and find yourself a Luminox instead.

I give you Kudos for responding and being active, and taking an interest in this mass drop. I will digress I have not had hands on experience with your product. I know friends who have Luminox watches and all of them sing praises. I also had a Luminox Colormark for 2 years before I lost it due to my aftermarket strap failing. The only thing I can see different from a Colormark series watch is the sapphire crystal. I am not a watch expert, I can accept criticism in the case where I have demonstrated ignorance and apologize if you feel that is the case. I do give you a 5/5 for passion and belief in your product.

MotoI owned a T25 watch (Orange/Black) as shown above and sold it to buy the Isobrite Valor T100 version. All I can say is both watches were very solid, lightweight and offered very nice lume. The T25 version requires your eyes to adjust to the dark to be very legible, while the T100 can be read legibly moving between a light and then darkened room, and is noticeably brighter overall.
Armourlite/Isobrite are quality watches, you cannot go wrong with either version (though the T100 version I have also has a sunburst dial that is incredible).

But the half life of tritium is very short (on the order of 7 to 15 days within the body) limiting both the amount the body can absorb over time and the damage that can be done per any single exposure. More importantly, the vectors of entry into the body are limited. And since the major vectors are inhalation or ingestion through the gut, there's not much chance of getting any from the tiny amount of tritium utilized. Then of course it is sealed into a carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate watch case. So without breaking the crystal, recovering the teeny tiny illuminating markers, grinding them and snorting the powder, or swallowing it, or going to the trouble of using a biologically designed exit portal as a means of introduction internally.....you should be safe.

crossExplained perfectly by cross! Tritium markers are used in so many different applications. Even airplane cockpits use them for illuminating the dials.

thinking of joining this drop but i need info please. regarding the Swiss Ronda 515 quartz movement,
what happens to the date like when it's febuary going to march, do i adjust the date manually since feb has
28 days only? or the watch movement knows this and everything will be automatic? thanks in advance :D

Quartz just means the timekeeping aspect, the crystal oscillations. It doesn't mean that there is a little computer inside the watch keeping track of the Gregorian calender.

mctoomeHi mctoome, the tritium markers remain illuminated for up to 25 years. They have a half-life of about 12.5 years. By that point the glow will only be about half as visible as it was when the watch was new. When the user doesn't find the tritium markers to be visible enough anymore, the watch can be sent back to our repair center to have the dial replaced with fresh new tritium markers.

ArmourLiteUsually "half as bright" means having half the amount of light (half the number of photons emitted), not being half as visible. The human visual system perceives light logarithmically, and half the light is onlly one "step" less bright. An example would be one stop less light in a photograph (one f-stop down, f-stops halve or double the light), which is one step lower on Ansel Adams Zone System scale. If you own a television, it will be half as bright after only five years, and same with your computer and phone display. Nobody notices this amount of dimming, unless it's shown side by side with a new screen. The difference is way less than the brightness difference between a brand-new LCD television and a brand-new plasma television, and most video freaks prefer the dimmer plasma screens.

All the color came off and it sort of got all over the place.

awesome. i'm in on this drop.
any problems with the bezel ratcheting wearing out--seems to happen to other resin or polymer watches I've had. The teeth seem to strip allowing the bezel to rotate in reverse.

lobsterHi lobster, we just checked with our repair center and we have not yet had even one case of the bezel ratcheting wearing out. As long as it's not forced in the wrong direction, the bezel is designed for a long life.

+1 on this watch being a bit too large. 44mm is about as large as I can go...I would probably spring for the Navigator model if it were offered at a fair price.

Has pretty decent reviews. $269 on amazon, so good deal here. Just not sure if I'm ready to pay over 200 bucks for a watch.
