Contrary to its name, the Orthodox from Artisan Cutlery is anything but standard. Like something out of Sweeney Todd’s barber shop, it sports a long, straight edge that offers maximum control when slicing Read More
Got mine recently and I'm really happy with it. The straight edge is super easy to sharpen on a stone and it comes apart with a torx for quick cleaning. There seemed to be some dirt on it when it arrived, so I encourage everyone who buys one to take it apart, clean it, and oil it. Be careful not to lose the small bearings, though.
The clip comes off easily with a couple of screws and the knife can be opened with one hand. I'd say it's ideal as a utility knife, but it certainly fulfills my needs as an EDC. I bought the smaller version and it does a wonderful job breaking down boxes - it keeps a good edge too. I'm pretty picky when it comes to knives, but this is one I'm glad to have on me when I'm working.
This has proven to be a useful tool. It's very sharp, and I use it for everything from cutting open boxes to occasionally slicing meat. I love the metal box and zippered case it arrived in too.
Absolutely love this knife. Wanted something I wouldn't loose if I put it down in a mess, so the orange handle was great. You will be able to flick the knife open with one hand, if you are confident and have a strong hand grip (got into Australia too). Sharp out the box. The presentation is great, comes in a hard white box with a black pouch with gold draw string inside. Bit much too much bells and whistles for me, but would be awesome if bought as a gift.
Holding off on a five star until I see how it holds up overtime.
This is a nice and unique looking knife. It begs for a hollow grind and I found mine to be a bit thick behind the edge but it has good action and a nice clip. It’s good but I like other artisan models a little better for everyday use.
GrecianI have the Tomahawk & the Osprey , both are great knives. Artisan make some quality products. I love the two I have they are sharp, solid, they open with ease and lock up tight. I think I have to pick this one up. What other ones do you like ? I will probably buy more of their knives just looking for ideas. Thanks.
My first straight razor style blade and I am happy with it so far. I opted for the 2.95” for some EDC duty when my larger blades take up too much real estate.
Pros: fit and finish are quite nice, blade is thick enough for chores, pocket clip inspires confidence
Cons: the flipper tab is a hair too small and a little sharp
Verdict: Great example of a working knife that is well built and priced at a steal. Highly recommended!
Er......I’ve always thought a straight-edge flipper would be cool. Kinda seems like one of those things that should have been left as a “neat idea” because in practice....it’s just not a good knife.
Aesthetically it nails the “look” but there’s no part of this thing that actually works well as an EDC tool. Fun art knife for your collection? Sure. A carry option? YMMV but not for me.
