Like an old-school switchblade, the Artisan Hornet is quick to open and exceptional at piercing. While it can’t open quite as fast as a switchblade, it certainly comes close Read More
This is a nice knife and it is well made. Very sharp right out of the box and it opens smoothly. When it is open it looks like a double edged knife and this makes it look more impressive.
As a disclaimer, my safe is spilling over with knives so I think I know what works in terms of aesthetics, form and function .
This one does not met any of them
Aesthetics: This design is a haphazard attempt to look nice but in its total it does not work. The knife looks interestingly on paper but seeing it life, it is too big, out of proportion and is as beautiful as hemorrhoids at sunset
Form: the handles are too uncomfortable to grab (too skinny, to thin and too long), the blade is too long, does not seem to have a useable purpose, the metal edges are not prepared and thus have an uncomfortable edge to them, knife is too big overall to carry comfortable, and the glass breaker is uneccesarily big. Overall, this is a knife that screams "look I am kewl" but then does not measure up compared to about 99% of the nice knife market
Function: Well, at least it opens. Don`t even think this this is something that could get you out of a tricky situation. Most likely, it'll kill you. I gave it to one of my kids to have it broke in ( teenagers are great for fingerf@<"*>`% knives) and even after 2 weeks of continuous open and close it is still a bitch to operate. The fingerguards, which are suppose to be flipper tabs are mishaped, in the way and just not functionally. As mentioned, all of the metal edges are not finished and have a sharp 90 degree to it. And forget in case you are wearing gloves. Might as well open it with your teeth since that would be faster. The blade is so pointy and shaped that the tip will break of with any reasonable knife use, whereas the blade real estate is relatively small and zi doubt one could really uses it for EDC purposes (I bet glue from box tape will gum up the mechanics if you want to cut open boxes, pun intended).
VERDICT: If you don't mind having at least one knife in your collection to demonstrate what not to buy, this would be a good choice. If you rather spend your money on a good knife, keep looking bc this aint it.
Addendum: I decided to give the knife to a friend as I am not going to give this thing valuable space in my safe. The swastika issue added to the overall problems with the knife; overall opinion that I have after being in posession of it for a few weeks: it was a waste of money at least for me. One would be better of saving a little more and get a better quality blade. Moreover, depending on juristiction, you may have to face LEO inquiring why you are carrying a knife seemingly designed for stabbing.
Piece of expensive junk, stay away. QC is non existent, cutting edge is ground w/ different angles on each side, blade locks open off-center by a few degrees, suffers from serious lock-stick. Buy two Ganzo knives instead of this POS, you will end up with something worth your money and be a lot happier...
