The appeal of an MD purchase is the opportunity to buy interesting products at a meaningful discount, so you need to know what the shipping price is in order to determine if you are actually getting that meaningful discount.
So, it would be helpful for MD customers if MD would include the shipping cost for every MD item in the description, rather making their customers click to the checkout page just to get a shipping cost. Yes, I understand that clicking back and forth isn’t terribly onerous, but it would require zero effort from MD to include the shipping cost on the description page and it would be a tangible demonstration that customer service is a priority for MD.
Since I'm partial to minimalist brass pens, I'm very interested in this offering, but my purchase decision will depend on getting to the lowest cost.
The pen is available direct from Ateleia (http://www.ateleia.com) for the $75 list price, but you get a 10% discount on your first order, reducing the cost to $67.50. Shipping is $3.25 for a total of $70.75 – without waiting for the drop to end and be re-shipped.
Since MD is charging $2.75 for shipping, the $61.99 price point results in a total cost of $64.74, a discount of 8.5% and a saving of $6.01 from Ateleia total cost.
The $56.99 price point results in a total cost of $59.74, a discount of 15.6% and a saving of $11.01.
So, I’m committing at the $56.99 price point and hoping that 10 more fellow pen geeks sign on.
BTW, Ateleia (http://www.ateleia.com) also offers this pen in other metals: Copper $99 Stainless steel $85 Aluminum $59
Another very nice minimalist brass pen:
Ensso's Pen UNO brass limited edition https://www.ensso.com/products/pen-uno-brass-limited-edition $65.00, but with a 15% first order/newsletter discount and no shipping charge, total cost is $55.25

Personally, I don't mind if the cap doesn't post. I find that heavy caps often throw off the balance of the pen.
The grip looks a little slippery to me. Or is it? I do love knurled grips on pens, but I think I might be the only person in the whole world who does.
If it requires a tool to change ink, that tool needs to be built into the pen somehow. Building it into a pocket clip would be the ambitious solution, and would also keep the pen from rolling.
The simple solution would be to mill a suitable notch in the cap. Probably cheaper than supplying a wrench too.
drossmapYou have put your finger on several different design considerations. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a suitable method for attaching a pocket clip. Obviously, this pen was designed with a clean, minimalist aesthetic in mind. Slapping a pocket clip on the outside with bulky screws would not do. I generally hate knurling, because I find it both unsightly and uncomfortable. I cannot say that have ever had problems with the pen slipping out of my grip (the only real cause of slipping would be if you use lotion or come in contact with lubricants regularly). Ultimately, the pen is what it is. As much as I/we want to pursue both form and function while designing, I believe we all make certain sacrifices in functionality to make products aesthetically pleasing. Having used several other machined metal pens, I can say with confidence that it is exceptionally balanced and offers a magnificent writing experience for extended periods of time. All that being said, I am currently working on a new pen design that will be capless and feature a pocket clip.

Nice, I like the fact you need a wrench to swap refills, but at this price I think I'll pass for now.

Cheapskate alert...I know it's not the same, but those on a much tighter budget could do worse than the outwardly similar looking mass-produced brass pens going for around $3 with free shipping from numerous sellers on AliExpress. Using one myself and it's real brass (of some grade) and ageing nicely. Pics from AliExpress. They take about the same time to ship as DHL from my experience, with better tracking.

Do I understand them correctly, that the pen will accept an Uni-ball 207 refill?
BeachNoWaterYes, Uni-ball 207 carriages fit in the 'Pentel' version of the pen.

what are you supposed to do with the cap while you are using it? seems like I would just lose it.
mwsidar@mwsidar A valid question. The fact that the cap doesn't post on the back of the pen is likely the biggest 'con' listed whenever it is reviewed. It is a big concern for some but no big deal for others, and it is not at all uncommon to find fountain pens with caps that don't post. I feel the 'pros' outweigh the 'cons', as the pen is exceptionally balanced and offers a very enjoyable writing experience. At a table or desk, one can simply set the cap down next to his work. On the go, you have to hold on to the cap or stick it in a pocket. The same can be said for many camera lens caps or hatchet sleeves - I have found that most people who highly value a tool or utensil are willing to keep track of a protective covering that keeps it working properly.

Mine just came today https://twitter.com/TheProfosist/status/762094643425087488
I do kinda wish the cap went on the end (maybe magnetically). The reason being is its rather small compared to my Pen Type B sheath.

@ateleiacraft Do you plan to have a clip for the pen? I heard some time ago that you are trying to create a suitable clip but not sure how it ends up right now.

So I guess I won't be having this pen. Not having a clip is the biggest cons of this pen for me. The unposted cap doesn't bother me at all. But without a clip, it won't be easy to be carried around in my shirt pocket.
