I'm sure that this is a great audio player, as are the other ones that Massdrop has, but looking at the dimensions it would not be what I call portable. It's significantly bigger and heavier than my cell phone. Which is big enough that it really doesn't easily fit in my pocket. I'd like to see more DAPs that are good for exercising, or just walking around with. Sure I could get an iPOD and I got the Fiio M3 when it dropped. But the iPOD hasn't been updated in years, I loathe iTunes and the PC interface and the M3 has a terrible screen and a clunky player navigation system. Oh and did I mention the plastic screen got scratched to hell and back within about 2 days. Please Massdrop, could you drop a DAP that's actually, y'know PORTABLE?!

robert.harrisThis is portable, what you are looking for is ultra-portable. If you want a tiny DAP, I recommend checking out the Shanling M1, which has bluetooth (great for exercise) and has been featured on Massdrop before. You can also just buy it and not wait around. The Shanling M2s is another good option that is a little bit bigger. It has a gorgeous screen and you can get tempered glass screen protectors. Both Shanling players will definitely fit in your pocket.

micahjroseI appreciate the reply. I'll look into the Shanling M1 (where would be the best place to get it? The one on Amazon ships directly from Shenzen and I assume might not be the best deal). I look at Massdrop pretty regularly and have to admit I didn't see it (or it had lots of negative comments in the discussion page!).
I have to admit the issue of portability really irks me. If I can't put it (comfortably) in my pocket when sitting on a plane (true of most of the XDUO and FiiO lines which Massdrop feature a lot), then to me it doesn't count as portable ... :)

robert.harrisYour definition of portable fits basically only cellphone thickness players. Other options for you would include the HiFiMAN MegaMini (they'll have a new one that is plastic bodied at $99 or so soon), HiFiMAN SuperMini, AK Junior, and the AK 70. The Shanling's may still work for you. The edges are smooth on both and they are small, it all depends on what thickness is comfy for you. I'm personally not into sitting on cell-phones or players. I recommend taking them out. It's bad for your back to sit on them.
For items from Shanling, I've previously worked with Penon Audio, but that has the same downsides as working with Shenzen Audio. I would make a wager that the Shanling M2s will make an appearance on Massdrop soon, but I don't have any information that tells me this, just a hunch. It's a pretty good and pretty popular player right now.

micahjroseI certainly don't sit ON them! I never put anything into my back pockets (apart from anything else stuff always seems to fall out when I sit down!) Everything goes in my front pockets. In general my pants don't fit particularly tightly, so not much problem when I sit, but I'll admit slim is often better than short. Or even better something that'll fit conveniently into a shirt pocket (weight's often the issue with that.) Thanks for the other recommendations I'll definitely look at them. I really appreciate your help!

micahjroseThanks! Mind you I really shouldn't be complaining - 20 years ago I was carrying a Walkman around in my pocket. A lot larger than anything these days. Admittedly I carry so much in my pockets that I have a problem looking a bit like a chipmunk ...
