how does this compare to the o2/odac? I currently have the o2 amp only and wish to get a dac. read a few reviews saying this 1 has better dac than odac but amp is weaker than o2. would it be a good improvement if I combine this with the o2?

thomaszouI have this one and it will make a difference in anything, but most probably the amp in it is better than the 02, unless you have really hard to drive headphones. Power is not everything, this is about clarity and stage. The x1s will make even stupid youtube stream sound like hifi sort of :) So, basically get it if you can, is really good.

gluonIve got hd6xx and will get k712 soon. Would this be sufficient in driving them?

thomaszouYes. I have both the K712 and HD6XX. I’ve used them on both the X1S and X7S (the Sennheisers on the balanced XLR too). They power the headphones sufficiently (XLR has no issues as it has more power output and sounds amazing). I also picked up DarkVoice, which is fun. I wish the K712 were balanced (you can mod them if you like). Anyways, the sound on the Aune is great and they get loud enough for me using either of these cans.
