Available on Massdrop before anywhere else, this first production run of the Best-tech 1705 is crafted with premium materials in a compact frame. Though it measures just 5.6 inches long, the folder features a 2.4-inch S35VN blade that’s apt for slicing, piercing, and much more. A frame lock holds the blade in place once opened—not to mention deployment is a breeze thanks to the flipper tab. The handle is crafted from titanium that’s anodized in your choice of gold or silver. A recessed panel with grooves is both aesthetically pleasing and comfy in the hand. For carry, you have two options: Clip it to a pocket with the titanium clip, or attach it to a lanyard or keychain with the retractable loop. The loop is anodized for a nice complement to the colorful frame.

Developed by Crucible Industries (one of the leading manufacturers of specialty steels for the cutlery industry) and Chris Reeve (arguably the most famous knifemaker in the world), S35VN is perhaps the most balanced blade steel ever created in terms of all-around performance. It’s made through a process of powdered metallurgy known as CPM, which results in near perfect consistency in the distribution of carbides. Compared to conventional melting practices, the CPM process produces a steel characterized by superior dimensional stability, grindability, and toughness.
