Can anyone compare the 80ohm to the Sennheiser HD 598 Cs? Torn between the two and they're about the same price.

jaydunndidditIf you're likely to find the DT770s comfortable, then I can recommend them. Really, you should arrange to try them both. I suspect the Beyerdynamic have a better sound and the Sennheisers have superior comfort. (Based on my experience with the HD580s.)

jaydunndidditThey're awfully different headphones. 598Cs keeps up with the HD5x8 sound, but closed. Its bass isn't even that different from its open-back brothers, either.
DT770-80 sounds more "energetic", has more bass, but also more treble and a bit of bass bloat. I would recommend listening to both and see which you like better.

Valensilius_ZephyrusThanks, that's exactly what I was curious about. I tried the HD 569 and was very underwhelmed with their lack of bass. I already have the 58X and 6XX on order but need a closed back can. I've never listened to a Beyer before but always get worrisome of their 'hot' and 'bright' treble that everyone goes on about. For the cost, I may just go ahead and try em out. Otherwise I may just wait and save for the Fostex PH.

jaydunndidditJust gonna say this, but I was scared of beyer too until I tried them. They make my favorite headphones, or I came to that conclusion after loving the 880 and the amiron summarily. Treble is beautiful on both to my ears (600 ohm 880s).
I have heard the 598cs though and will tell you it's disgusting. horrible upper mids that make pianos notes glaring and very poor treble. The mids though are what make the headphone "unlistenable" to me, they sound far worse than most 30 dollar IEMS.
