To those who have already bought it: description says it is optimized for hotter climates. Has this proven to be true? I live in Houston and during the summer my previous dashcams (not Blackvue) have consistently had problems locking up and also falling off the windshield in the heat. I eventually gave up ... of course I then had accidents that I didn't have recorded. I'd spring for this if thpose problems have been solved.
HuckleCatProlonged direct sunlight (extreme heat) will kill any dash camera, over time. If you are driving and using AC, that's not a problem. When parked either unmount camera or find a secondary parking recording position, further back away from direct sunlight. Also, maybe leave two windows open, just a tiny bit, about a 5 - 10 mm crack, so heat escapes. (tilt your sunroof, if you have one with that feature?). You can use two sided 3M tape instead of sucker mount to prevent camera from falling off. Hope that helps.
HuckleCatI have the DR650S and it operates with no issues in the blazing FL heat. My car is in direct sunlight for 10 hours everyday during the summer, and I haven't even noticed so much as a flicker from the unit.
HuckleCatIs your problem that it falls off the windshield or that the electronics get fried?
I have had the DR750S - 2 Ch in Dallas with no electronics problems including several trips to Florida. I used the 3M adhesive pads that came with the camera and no problems on either the front or rear camera. I thoroughly cleaned the glass with alcohol before applying the adhesive. Look and make sure the entire adhesive pad is making contact, might need a wiggle or two. Electronics have been solid even when parked in direct sunlight.
Usually cameras designed for heat do not have an internal battery (prone to heat damage) but use a super-capacitor (heat tolerant) to smooth out the current from the car. BlackVue uses super-capacitor. Cheaper cameras use a battery.
