Product Description
Frustrated by the number of umbrellas that end up in landfills, the folks behind New Zealand–based Blunt set out on a mission: to make an umbrella that actually works—one that won’t break in a storm, when you need it most. The result? Read More

I'm very happy to announce that Massdrop and Blunt are now working together! The Metro and Classic are the two models that are the most highly rated in our polls. Our office staff has been testing out these umbrellas this Fall and have been thrilled with their performance. On my ten minute walk from the metro to our office, I see at least one (broken) umbrella left on a street corner or in a trash can, so the need for a more robust design is clear. There is no need for that when there is a better design.
This drop is unique in that it is being shown to the Mens Style and Ultralight Communities. We think it has broad appeal for it's looks and functionality. Obviously you can use an umbrella for your commute and travel, but did you know that a lot of backpackers use umbrellas in the wilderness? Yup! Check out Joe Brewer's recent Massdrop article on Umbrellas and Rain Skirts: https://www.massdrop.com/talk/965/on-umbrellas-and-rain-skirts-and-why-you-should-try-hiking-with-them
This umbrella may be on the heavy side for some ultralight backpackers, but I think this drop can plant the seed for a custom Massdrop x Blunt UL Umbrella. Same structural integrity, but with a lighter stem, a thick cork handle, a lighter natural color, and maybe reflective treatment (although this umbrella already blocks 90% of UV rays). What do you think?

Illinois_knife_guyCan't resist...he's not a model. He's Danny Milks who researches and and sources for MD. He's pretty cool actually and knows a metric shit ton about the gear. Soooo, yeah. Not a model. I would describe his smile as super chill and sly. Now go back to YouTube and say nasty things all you want.

As an Aussie, I've already been using this umbrella for over 1 years. All I can say is: it's great but it's very small. Like really, really small.
I wouldn't use it because my backpack frequently got drenched behind my back. I bought one for myself but I eventually gave it to my girlfriend who fortunately loves it because it fits her better and she finds it cute. I then bought the classic stick umbrella from the same company and I haven't looked back since.
So if you could, skip this and get the classic when it's available.
Having said that, Blunt products are only second to Senz's in term of wind resistance, but Senz products are just weird and people will give you weird looks on the street when you use them. However, Blunt customer service is phenomenal. They gladly replaced my umbrella with a new one when I complained and sent it back, all because a cap fell off.
Verdict: the Metro is cute, colourful, strong and highly capable, even though it's huge and heavy when folded and disappointingly small when in use, it's a thumbs-up from me. The concept is sound, get this for any unexpected drizzles but not much else.

The Senz umbrellas are definitely weird, not in a bad way, but they are still weird. However, performance-wise they are the best, withstanding the most brutal winds and still staying in shape. Although if the weather gets that bad, I still question anyone's sanity walking around in all that wind and rain in the first place.
Having said that, I still value the eye-saving, rounded struts and the traditional circular shape of the Blunts. You know, if you ever own an umbrella, make sure it's round and big enough so you could share it with your significant other, too! The Classic Blunt fits the bill, this Metro does not, due to its size and weight.
These are good for emergencies and gifting, but not as your primary umbrella.

I have purchased a https://www.bluntumbrellas.com/nz/xsmetro an xs metro. I am based in New Zealand and phoned up blunt umbrellas and purchased directly from them. I would strongly recommend not to purchase this umbrella unless they increase the size of the handle. It is ridiculously small. My wife who I purchased this for is around 5 feet and her hands are small and even she found the too small to the extent that that umbrella has only been used for 15 minutes without rain, just sun, and is sitting unused. I emailed blunt NZ to ask if I could return as I have the umbrella is new condition with all the packaging but did not hear back. If everyone put pressure on them to improve this product, I am more than happy to spend money on it, but right now no thanks. When I am back from holiday (currently overseas), I will add photos to justify my opinion.

it-manthanks for uploading the pics and everything. (i use that same sharpie for work too!) I like the design, don't mind the small handle (i'm asian) but even for me i think the canopy is too small. i would consider the normal size, but definitely not the XS. somehow i feel that this drop is to help them clear their stock.

Please see pictures, as they say, worth a thousand words. So they spent all their time working on a really cool canopy, but decided to put such a small handle that it is practically unusable. Love the overall concept of the canopy, please fix the handle.

I bought this for my wife who is very petite and would have hands the size of older primary school kids. She used it once and never again ... complained that her hands hurt because of the size and shape of the handle. We returned it and got a standard blunt umbrella (which by the way does not have a strap ... which I thought was a big oversight considering the price and its meant to be used in windy weather). Blunt has a way to go in terms of product testing and some common sense engineering.

received it just today, this thing looks too big yet way too small for any practical purposes

Umbrella is relatively small for the size it collapses into due to the design of the ribbing.

Thriolithyes, it is just too big when it collapse relative to its 'xs' size when opened
they really should introduce something that's between a full size and this xs, maybe call it hmm S? short for small?

I like how all the low rated reviews are about it's small size. Buys an XS umbrella and gives bad rating because it's too small...
vongIt think most reviews are disappointed by the fact it doesn't collapse like a small. It's quite bulky folded. But I can still fit mine in my Crumpler back pack without issue. Pretty sure Crumpler rebrand Metro umbrellas for their bags actually.

So it won’t break in high winds, but will it invert?
SupersportThanks for your question, the metro is design in a way so the ribs and canopy won't break when force is applied. The frame can invert however the umbrella will stay intact and can be easily corrected without breaking. Thanks

A long time thought about "compact" umbrellas: many or nearly all offer handles that are smaller than an average man's hand, the grip being roughly three fingers wide. So when the wind howls and blows, the user has little leverage to fight off the gusting. He/she has nothing to hold onto.
