At this time in my collection, this is my third favorite knife with Gareth Bull's Trapper and Chris Reeve's Inkosi leading my list. I have wonderfully made, exquisitely designed and assembled knives up to ten times the price, that this one beats out. I'm referring to the carbon fiber version. This is the largest front flipper I am aware of. It is among the thinnest knives in my collection. The thinnest of the knife and the lip/front flipper is what I like most about it. The Philips head screws for the clip are a source of contention. I was careful to exert plenty of pressure when removing them to take off the clip so they didn't strip out. I believe the use of such unconventional mounting hardware is based on the overall sleekness of the design. Torx screws would not be flush with the clip surface. Base on my preferred dimensions. I would like to see an 85% scaled down version and wrote Boker with my thoughts. It is a terrific fidget toy once you get the possibility of “lock stick” worked out should yours have it too. It's incredibly smooth opening and falls shut amazingly with nylon washers and not bearings. I appreciate the control the lip/front flip jimping provides for closing it without endangering my fingers or thumb. I've had a couple close calls and am glad I didn't slice myself. Speaking of slicing, I don’t go to a restaurant without it. Most steak knives I have encountered lately are dull or are serrated. I like to cut my meat, not saw it off. I almost loaned it to a friend last Saturday night as I watched him work so hard to slice off a piece of steak. Looking over my collection spreadsheet of over 100 knives and almost $15k invested, I could not more enthusiastically or highly recommend a knife as this one. It is an incredible value and damned fun to fidget. I like it so much, I might buy another on the next drop.

I have been looking at Exskelibur 2 for some time but, wasn't going to get one unless it is a front flipper. Blade HQ shows it as a one but, other sites don't. There is some confusion about that. I even got a catalog from Boker and it claimed it was. Since I now have a Gareth Bull Shamwari and Trapper I will not get one. The Trapper is the perfect small Gentleman's folder that I have been looking for.

stoutdogIsn't it great when you find "the knife" in your hand, especially when it's an affordable one by anyone's standards.

Mine arrived today and it's a perfect specimen of Exskelibur. I got the CF/Titanium version.
It's razor sharp, evenly ground with good lock-up, perfectly centered. CF scales look fantastic under any light. I switched the clip to tip-up and now I'm in love. I read some reviews about handle being too thin and therefore affecting ergo. Sure it can be a concern if this is your only knife. I don't know who those people are and why they are on massdrop. I myself have 3 Exskelibur 1s and 3 Exskelibur 2s in different variations. In my collection this knife is the thinnest, and will be my pick for EDC, date-nights, trouser days, shorts days, and cycling. If I bring it to a steak restaurant, I guarantee some waiter will ask to see/handle it.
Also worth mentioning, before this I was envious of the new BM bugout/535. Not anymore! The knife belongs on the dinner table whereas the 535 will look like a kids' toy.
me happy, thx massdrop

I don’t have as extensive experience with Exskeliburs as 99cuts does, but I have the cocobolo/damascus version. Its a very attractive knife and has a good action (especially after cleaning/lubing) despite being onTeflon washers. Like 99cuts said, if you carry this, people will ask to see it regularly. However, as far as F&F goes, mine was only ok, the wood was pristine but the box inside was actually stained with whatever they used to stain/finish it, like it was put in there wet, didn’t seem to affect mine but that’s a little ugly. The biggest complaint I have is the complete lack of any chamfering on the liners, the edges are very sharp and completely raw. The Damascus pattern on mine was definitely uneven from one side to the other too. Ultimately I feel like its a great design that Boker just missed the mark on execution. I think for the money there should have been better care taken with details like that. That being said, I can only speak for the damascus version. I would recommend the S35VN version.

kennedyzeroDitto on the sharp liners on other variants. I filed mine down using a ceramic stone. Just a few swipes does the job.
The cf version is linerless, i didnt have to perform any diy fixes.

I have this knife and I so wanted to like it being a front a flipper and with quality blade, and lightweight for its size. It came razor sharp I'd give it that. Having said that, those are about the only things I like about this knife. The ergo is not very comfortable and its probably because it is too thin and wide. The hardware screws are soft and you're likely to round them off during the clip orientation change. Front flipper action takes getting used so needless to say not intuitive. You'll get the hang of it but in the end a simple flipper knife is still way better. Adjustment of the pivot screw is something you'll have to continually need to do unless you apply loctite. It is not very stable and once it is loose the centering of the blade becomes way off. Over all I'd say this knife should be no more than a $50 knife and I'm still being generous here. Not what I expected for an over $100 knife. Save a little more and get yourself a Spyderco Para 3 .

TexMonit is true...I stripped all of my screws when I tried to change my clip position, but i did manage to do it at the least...however, I still like the knife a lot...the ergo works for me since I only use it for light duty...I love the front flipper way more than normal flipper due to the absent of a flipper tab. the s35vn is great edc steel....I put lock tight on my knife every time after i clean it, so it was not a problem. I highly doubt you can get a knife with CF, Ti handle with s35vn front flipper knife under 100....the price is not low but it is also not high...it is a good deal.

RebuswindI Also agree with you Rebuswind. I EDC this knife and love it. Its not a heavy knife, You can go all day with it in your pocket and forget its there until you need it. I haven't had a single problem with this knife and to be fair its more of a Gentleman's knife then a work horse but that's what I wanted.

I love wood handles but not damascus blades. Wonder if I could buy them both, swap the blades, and sell the damascus/CF combo as a 1-of-kind limited edition...

This is post is not related to the cocobolo version at all. thats based on the gen1. which i also have the decade edition exskelibur1... i like it but quality is ehh.
Here's Nicks review of the Exskelibur 1 (gen2) in titanium (not carbon fiber like this drop is for)
i have this exskelibur 1 in carbon fiber. i like it but the quality is medium in comparison to other framelocks. there is no framelock stabilizer, there is no steel carbonized lockbar insert. the titanium is thin, the detent is just okay. it flips great, but it has nylon washers and thats what i hate about it (one of these days ill have to swap to phosphorus bronze and see how much better it is then). mine had even worse quality control because the pivot rotates even tho the pivot has a flat portion so its not suppose to twist, the scale is round. so either thats a mistake from the factory or its poor quality control and it was missed (functions perfectly fine otherwise).
if you want a really good knife quality front flipper just like this model get the original from burger knives http://www.burgerknives.co.za/

but you would still want it. i agree its a bit much, but its a custom knife, time and materials, plus supply and demand. buying used is also an option, but not always easy to find let alone, lower than retail. i see your position, everyone's different.

anonomousI have the exskelimoore 1 with oak and 440c steel. Blade #080 it is good long-lasting quality. But not as sturdy like the lightweight 3000. I have also the mini vanquish decade edition #263 with carbon grip and vf-10. Very good finish. Good materials. But the factory edge of the blade could have been better.

Yes, I thought it was an excellent price (especially with the $20 credit I had on this site. I was holding onto that credit for another collab but when I saw this, I thought, what the hell). Boker definitely has some QC issues. I already own the CF version (can’t get it perfectly centered no matter what I try), so I ended up buying the titanium one. The titanium model was the last one to sell out, so I guess it’s the least popular of the three, but I liked it with the blue accents. The cocobolo/damascus sold out first. I really love the blade shape on this knife! It’s so simple and elegant!

Does the CF model have CF front and back? It appears the CF is only on one side? One sided CF models are always disappointing to me. And why wasn't it offered in Damascus? Both Boker drops are largely disappointing this week...

yeah...some people really get hung up on "aesthetics". FWIW this Boker is extremely functional in hand...I mean, if you can get past the lack of symmetry and lack of being carbon fiber all over... Funny that you mention the 0454cf as I sold one of those recently and purchased a 0450CF AND a 0452CF, both superior knives IMO. Hard to go wrong with any of the Sinkovich designs really. I guess your concept of "aesthetics" and 'disappointment' just doesn't really relate. Personally, I find these frame lock, carbon/Ti designs practical, very functional and, I suppose, attractive. Maybe I'm just wowed by how thin and stiff they are. I'll probably change my mind next month...

To clarify, subframe locks are trademarked by kai cutlery, who owns ZT and kershaw. Unless this were made by either of those companies, there's no way this could a sub framelock

Could we stop identifying Boker Plus products as Boker knives? I realize that sounds really whiny but it's disappointing to click on these drops again and again only to find out they're Chinese subcontracts.

Am I wrong or is the Damascus steel just worse at wear resistance, edge retention, etc than S35? Wish I could have the S35VN blade in the Cocobolo scales without buying two knives and swapping them...

Are you sure the core of this blade is still S35VN? I've seen lots of VG10 cores with Damascus coatings like you describe, but I've also seen Damasteel, which (I'm pretty sure) is its own alloy. It doesn't mention in the description exactly which sort of Damascus this is, so I assumed it probably wasn't coated S35VN, since I haven't seen other blades with Damascus coatings and S35 cores.

GidkidAfter a bit more digging I'm less sure about sure about the core being S35VN. You're probably right about it being some other combination. And based on the variation in pattern that I've seen on the Exskelibur I Damascus from pictures on other sites I'm not sure if they are even doing a core style blade at all (I was just looking at the one here on Massdrop at first). It would have been way better if that had said that it was Damasteel since that is a trademark held by Soderfors and they fully disclose everything about it on a material properties sheet (http://www.damasteel.se/our-steel/).
You are right that it is more reasonable to assume nothing about the steels that they are using. The only way to know for sure would be to contact Boker support but I wouldn't hold my breath too much on them being transparent since it isn't in the marketing.

Then you contact the seller....if you can't get them to fix it, you contact Amazon. I've never had ANY problems getting a solution to an issue on their site.
