Product Description
Hailed for its slim profile, ease of carry, and utility, Brad Zinker’s Urban Trapper is one of the most popular knives in the EDC community. While it’s been recreated with many materials, never before has it been crafted with linen micarta scales like the ones found on this version: a combination of black and red with a demonic look Read More

Fuuudge, I just started collecting knives after being stuck with a gerber remix since 2016 or so... but ever since I saw the OG Massdrop X Zinker collab I've always wanted a Zinker knife. Do I take the plunge? I haven't bought a single knife over 60$ yet

biggE4944This is one of the best regarded light EDCs around. The swirl is sort of a trendy thing but the knife itself is classic. If you like what you see, I'd say give it a shot.

biggE4944Depends on your hand-size, I went with Zinker's Boker Plus FR instead of the Trapper. Less-stabby but a more useful blade shape IMO. Too bad I missed out on the FR Drop exclusive.

Sailn' Shoes with Lowel George is my favorite cut on that album. "Don't that cocaine tree look fine?"

I hadn't thought about Palmer in a long time. I really enjoyed his voice and was sad when I learned he'd died. The album cover is perfect for this thread. Thank you.

does anyone know where these are made? can't seem to find any info online so I'm a bit curious. I'm guessing probably China?

Shrug. I get it but if it's important to you, you can't go by what the retailer puts in ad copy anyway. Not in 2021. You have to do your own careful research if you want to be ethical about it and it really matters to you. Otherwise you'll just be misled and used. Like, if my knife is made in Alabama by a dude who had to go to work with COVID because the doctors ran out of tests and without the diagnosis the temp agency he works for would otherwise replace him and he'd be evicted and unable to pay for his kid's medication and it turns out that the factory foremen actually arranged a betting pool on how many of their workers would test positive for COVID 19? That Made in the USA sticker won't tell me that, and if I spent tons of money buying knives from that company before I found out about all that ugly stuff going on, I wouldn't just be a schmuck -- I'd actually be part of the problem, not when 'the free market' is supposed to be what keeps that crap from flourishing. I don't mean to sound overly cynical, I've just worked in enough American factories in my life to be profoundly skeptical when people paint them as law abiding, clean, healthy places where people aren't run ragged by management and corners aren't cut left and right in order to make shipment times or get something through QC. To say 'I've seen some shit' is a bit of an understatement.

reswrightI completely agree. For me, I have some american made knives (I won't say any names) that I've tried opening up, put back down, and said I'll never touch that again. And, right now I have some Chinese made knives (I will say Reate because my fully dressed Tribute is absolutely phenomenal in every way) that I've tried opening up, couldn't put down, and said I'll never get rid of this.

To bad coated blade is the only option. That's an automatic NO for me.

We at least it matches the handle. To often I see knives that have some black in the handle and a satin blade when a black blade of any finish would match better. Its also pretty annoying when retailers don't offer a coated option for D2.

I'm a fan of the Urban Trapper, but profoundly dislike black colored blades. Too bad, I liked the pattern on the scales (even if the overall package is a little bit too expensive for the materials used - $75 would have been a "deal").

BobrazI don't mind a very good blade coating, especially on a carbon or semistainless steel that'd otherwise corrode. The problem is that comparatively few manufacturers can be counted on to nail it and I do profoundly dislike it when a manufacturer puts on a bad coat and then decides to obscure that fact by giving the coat some kind of weathering. To me, that just looks like ass. It hides blemishes very well even when done badly, which is one reason I think it's so popular in the industry, and why it's so often done on the cheap. Either put it on like you're spraying a truck bed, a la TOPS, or put it on like satin, like Spyderco and Benchmade. As far as I'm concerned, all middle ground is ugly.

I'm 99% sure that's actually G10, not Micarta. There's only like one guy on the planet that makes actual MICARTA like that (crazyfiber in Russia). I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I've been served lots of IG ads from Chinese factories that make and sell this G10 in several colors. G10 (fiberglass/epoxy) is perfectly fine, I just wanted to call out the fact that it's not technically micarta (cotton cloth/epoxy).

riorioOne way to tell is by feel as the ends of exposed glass fibers are pretty aggressive abrasives to human skin. Canvas/linen etc are much "gentler" to the touch. Warmer is term often used to describe the difference between Micarta and G10. Of course this means you have to buy one first to tell! And I might as I have a local made fixed blade Damascus with white and black crosscut Micarta that I bought on first sight because yeah the scales look that good! BTW it is as grippy as all get out without that sore skin feeling textured G10 does to my hands.

RunebobI love that blasted micarta feel (kind of 'fuzzy' and tactile). It's definitely my favorite handle material. Also, good on you for supporting a local maker!
