I still have my Rebel T1i (released in 1999 and bought in 2004) 10 years of ownership and it still works like day one, I've dropped it so many times, worked with it at the beach, in the rain (its definitely not weather sealed) and it still works perfectly fine. So if you're worried about warranty don't be, you won't need it.

If you are a starting photographer the Rebel series are an absolute kick ass system especially with all the advances features available for this price point and with the Massdrop discount not a bad choice to start off with.

I don’t know why they make the drops so short. It would help much more if they were a week to two longer, I think you’d see a lot more people involved

AldenCheangThis is a gray market camera which was not built to be sold in the United States. For various reasons Canon sells these cameras overseas much cheaper than in the U.S.. It's relatively simple to buy these in bulk a resell them in the U.S. as is being done here. It's exactly the same camera and you save a few hundred dollars. The catch is that they are not sold with the Canon US warranty. So if that is more important to you than the cost savings you might want to look elsewhere. Also, you can buy gray market cameras from places like newegg at a similar price point without going through the Massdrop process. But to be clear: there is nothing inferior about this camera. The absence of the US Mfg. Warranty is likely to make no difference as they are extraordinarily well made. I have used a predecessor model T3i for 8 years with no problems at all and there is every reason to believe this is just as well built.
TamashawallaI've bought gray market cameras and lenses through a few places in Hong Kong. They are essentially identical except you might get a little less case candy. Stuff like manuals, AV cables, quickstart cards etc. Also most of the lenses I get like this are 'white box' not glossy retail packaging. But all of them functioned fine. There is also an added nerd factor that you have a camera with different badging than standard US. So occasionally I would get funny looks from camera store people, or photography meetup people.

Lfm5Canon/most photography companies will invalidate any camera or lens warranty sold by a third party. This includes Massdrop.

I'm very interested in this, but not if the warranty will be voided by it being the international version or the seller info does match up etc. I don't see from the previous comments that the question was ever answered. Massdrop peeps, got a comment? I know they don't usually respond in the discussions, but would be nice to hear from them.

tuccoyoteI should have replied to this earlier, this is the email response I got from MD:
"At Massdrop, we purchase our inventory through authorized dealers. As we then pass along this inventory to our members, we are a third party retailer. As the Canon EOS Rebels were not purchased directly from the manufacturer, any warranty provided may not be honored, as the purchase was made via a third party. As we are the direct buyer, the warranty is not transferable to the member unless otherwise stated on the drop page. If you go to the Canon Rebel drop page here, and scroll  to the bottom of the drop in the specs of the product any warranties would be mention under the included section.  Since none were mentioned, this is only covered under Massdrop's 30 day warranty.   We only offer returns for items that arrive damaged, defective, not-as-advertised, or are missing components. These issues must be reported within 30 days of receiving the item. When drops are completed, we submit the group's order to the vendor up-front. This is how we are able to deliver the best value to our members and is why all sales are final."

This is a fantastic camera, I have loved mine since It first came out. I wish the Eos R, was better though so I wouldn't be forced to use 2 different systems for 4k video :(
