LUGMANThey could be targeting a foreign market. Even if I got charged 100% import tax, it's way cheaper to buy on Drop

What makes this better than an ipod, or a smartphone. Unlike a record player it seems to me that there is not even the nostalgia factor here. I’m trying to understand what a device like this gives to its users. It might be self evident to an audiophile, but I’m not one.
As much as I would like to, I already have 2 daps. Thanks for the offer though.

Drop, are you kidding us? $479? It's a regular price everywhere! but could be purchased below $400 if you haggle with retailers...

brainwaveDo you know which US retailers are carrying the N3PRO? Would rather look for a local deal if they're around

Sonic_StardriveThere are plenty of dealers on eBay, you may submit an offer and settle for a reasonable price. I bought mine from audio46 in NY. It was selling for about $380 by the end of last year.

I purchased mine here and it´s arriving in a few days. Just wanted to comment on the fact that from what I now read the price we really not that great. As someone mentioned here, Drop should be much more careful on how they shop and how they price what they offer the Drop community. From now on I will always see what is offered by Drop with more than a grain of salt! regards to all.

I have the player I bought it a few months ago at Bloom Audio. It's a nice player but I would not make it my main player. Compared to the I Basso DX 160 or the Hiby R5. One there are no apps. It says Wi-Fi but that's very limited it's only for really downloading updates. The Bluetooth is extremely weak for TWS headphones. The O/S is definitely entry-level this thing doesn't even have a clock. I know that's minor but it just shows you how much they cut corners to get the tubes in at a cheaper price. I've also had some problems with mine. I'm not sure if that's with every player but I do have a lot of freezing it plays for an hour or 2 then freezes up. I've also had issues with the file location being lost. You'll be listening to music and all of a sudden there's no file. You have to reload everything. It doesn't take long but it's frustrating. The plus side is the Bluetooth works really well when pairing it up with the phone. That's the real strength of this thing works great as a DAC for the phone. Also as a line out to a standalone stereo system. There the sound is amazing. The tubes sound really good they give you 2 different sound options plus the solid-state option without the tubes. As someone mentioned if you do TWS you can only use solid-state you cannot use the tubes. If you are using as a Bluetooth from the phone you have to use wired headphones. The Bluetooth can only go one way you're either streaming from the phone or you streaming to wireless headphones you cannot do both. So I think this is for an audiophile who already has a really nice player. And has a lot of really nice wired headphones not relying on TWS. For example I have the Hiby R8 it's a fantastic player but it's a little big and bulky to carry around. So this hit the spot it's easy to carry around and I can easily use it with my phone and I do have a micro card so if I'm not in a place to stream I can listen to music on the micro card. So again if you already have a nice player and are looking for something with the tubes sound that is a little cheaper this could work for you. But as a standalone player no way look at the I Basso DX 160 the Hiby R5 or as someone mentioned the Fiio M9. All of those players are going to give you a much better overall all around experience compared to this one.

raymondehayes1Try updating to the 2.0 version of the OS. It includes a time/date function and includes bug fixes that may fix your freezing/file issues.

Sound-wise it’s one of a kind, but don’t go in expecting a hazy, peaceful warmth. The DAC is very good and the tubes only work as preamp, while the amp section can sound very energetic in Ultralinear mode. It’s more intimate in Triode mode but still not a tube cliché. The balanced solid-state is a beast too, and competitive with pretty much anything up to $700. @morndewey it’s standard retail price but I think you get extra Drop points @raymondehayes1 I don’t agree this can’t be someone’s main player. I was on the fence, preordered it then cancelled and looked at the DX160, the R5 and R6Pro, the SR25, the M6Pro, the ZX-507... then got a new phone, a Zenfone 7 Pro. That put the Android part of these DAPs in perspective. Older OS, slower chips, lesser screens... I got back to my initial plan, which is to use the N3Pro as a mobile DAC/amp, either connected via USB or bia BT to my phone, and stream away. The SD card with my Bandcamp albums is the cherry on top. @werekong Valid concern! The tubes are suspended in a special cradle that Cayin painstakingly designed just for the N3Pro. I walk around with it a lot, carrying stuff etc. and never even hear the small ringing the tubes can give out when the DAP gets hit (and that ringing itself is harmless). Very efficient protection.

SamsaraTI am not sure I understand the comment about the tubes only working in the preamp. This player has options for outputting to headphones in tube mode (SET or ultralinear). What am I missing?

I was considering this one. Tubes seem really interesting, it has a lot of features and price is fair but after I found out streaming is not an option (unless you connect it to your phone via Bluetooth and use it like a Bluetooth DAC) I changed my mind and got another one. I own couple of digital files or CDs I ripped but mostly listen from Tidal or Spotify. I know, not everyone needs streaming but it's getting more and more present and Apple and Spotify will offer lossless means there is a growing demand so a DAP without streaming is totally OK but seems like deal breaker for most.

Seems like there are a few drawbacks to just about every (affordable) option, making it hard to choose.

Bumping from comment below: "Probably a great player. I wanted to pick one up on Black Friday but missed it. Was $379 with case on MusickTeck. Would have bought it here if it was more like $399."
