Like a gauge on a Soviet airplane, or part of the dashboard on a space ship, the CCCP Sputnik CP-7001 is oozing with vintage mechanical tones. To start, all 27 jewels of the Slava 2427 movement are fully visible in the center of the dial Read More
just got this watch and I love it there are some issues the glass that has the writing and lines looks opaque an dirty as well as the inner circle looks like its oxidized, glass has a nick on it on the inside and there is some lint stuck on the number 2 spot
endlessg7Little consolation to you right now, but thanks to your feedback I'm not touching any CCCP stuff in future if the watches they sell are dirty and full of crud.
MalificentMuseSame watchband issue here as well - ordered one for myself, one as a gift for a friend. The gift watch was the CP-7001-02 model, black watchband with a carmine interior. It's the right model, except the interior is an unfinished tan color. Worse - mine was the CP-7001-06 model, and the watchband looks like a dark red on the website (again with a carmine interior). Instead, it's a mud brown color - again with the tan interior, a much duller looking watch than I wanted. Also - the gift watch had protective plastic on the crystal surface as a protector, but mine did not, making me wonder if mine was a return or something that got resold. Needless to say, not tremendously happy the way this drop turned out for me.
I am not an expert in Russian watches. I also don't know this particular model. It most likely commemorates the launch of Sputnik satellite on October 4, 1957. Two factories in the USSR made Sputnik watches: 1st Moscow Watch Factory and Tschistopolsky Watch Factory. The original Sputnik watches were made from 1957 until 1960 (I think). I doubt this watch is that old though. The caseback has English text on it. Also, an original Soviet watch should have a text “Made in USSR" written in Cyrillic ("Cделано B CCCP"). This one does not have it. Current production Russian watches display the text as "Made in Russia" (either in English or Russian). They may or may not use old Soviet movement designs. The specs show that this watch uses a movement Slava 2427, which I heard is of old design and quite good, but it that has only 18000 vph. Most likely it is not going to be very accurate.
44mm is a bit large, 16mm is a little thick, 1800vph is a touch slow, non hacking is non good, mineral crystal is a tad soft, but for $99 what do you want.
collectors and WIS are liking smaller watches, but really, I figure at this size, its for "big" people and people who are into bigger style watches. I can see this as a "fun" watch to have in my collection, wouldn't be everyday watch (but it may for some people).
