Um, I bought this thinking I could use it with my Onkyo DP-X1A. It just makes a ticking sound when connected. Am I doing something wrong? it does work great with my Samsung Note 5 phone. Just wow.

OneLovePhone can't provide enough power for the device. You'll need an otg cable with external power as well.

DanLeI didn't really pay attention, but it seemed fine. The DACport gets hot, but nice SQ.

OneLoveYour Onkyo is already a "dac-amp." it may not be designed to output audio again to another one. Looking at the specs, it might also provide better sound than the Dacport.

stalepieThe DPX1A can be used with external dacs/amps. I use it with the Oppo HA2 all the time via usb. I wanted to try it with the AK4490.

OneLoveOh, thought it was a phone. But anyways, compatibility varies depending on the device it's being plugged into. If it's ticking, it's not receiving enough power. Trust me, I've toyed a lot with OTG with a few phones.
Samsung devices have no issues powering the DACport. Even my old Galaxy S3 is willing to power it. However, my HTC One M9 gets the same ticking noise. When I used an OTG cable that accepted external power, everything worked fine.

SomeTechNoob@SomeTechNoob looks like it may work with the DPX1A, I now get the USB device popup. Needs more testing, but thanks for advice.

SomeTechNoobSo i tested with the Y cable and the external USB power allows the CEntrance to be recognized by the Onkyo DP-X1A. The bad news, is it seems to still drain the DP-X1A battery, even when external power is attached. I played music for 24 minutes using the Y cable with USB external power attached. The DP-X1A lost 10% battery in 24 minutes.
I tried the same setup using my Samsung Note 5 and it lost 12% battery in 24 minutes. I then tried my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8 inch. It only lost 1% battery life in 24 minutes. Weird?
None of the host devices will indicate charging, if the host is already ON and CEntrance and external USB power are attached to the Y cable first.
If I disconnect the CEntrance (from the Y cable) and shutdown the DP-X1A it starts to charge via the external USB power. If then turn ON the DP-X1A, it keeps charging from the Y cable, even after I reattach the CEntrance :)
The Note 5 doesn't respond at all to Y cable charging, when it is off. The Galaxy Tab S2 will flash the gray battery charge icon, but won't show the green power level or charge percentage levels.
One extra weird thing I noticed was that if I disconnected the external USB power while the CEntrance was already connected to (and recognized by) the DP-X1A, it would continue to play using the DP-X1A power. No ticking noise. Strange.
Lastly, the audio quality is amazing on all devices (Extra Bass Included). I tested with my 64Audio U8s.
I wish there was a way to completely block power draw from the host device when using a Y cable (and external USB power), but the USB spec says the VCC wire from the host needs to be connected for OTG to work. So you can't simply cut it.
How about a CEntrance DACPort slim v2 with another micro USB port to provide external power directly. If the CEntrance V2 unit senses external power is attached directly, it doesn't pull from the host. :)

OneLoveYup those findings are similar to mine. I had some times where I just needed to "jumpstart" the DACport Slim and could disconnect external power just fine. Only tested with android phones, so the difference with a DAP is interesting to read.
CEntrance came out with the DACportable some time ago, which is basically a similar version of the DACport Slim/HD but with a built in battery to answer the requests for a truly mobile dac/amp, not just a transportable one.

The Galaxy Tab S2 is a top performer and can hold a charge nicely. Even after 24 minutes connected to the CEntrance with no external power, only 5% battery was used. All other devices lost around 12% battery. With the external power connected to the Y cable, the battery level only jumps 1%. No charge indicator but it doesn't get drained. Not sure why Note 5 works differently. They all use Andriod 7. I will be getting a Note 8 soon to test.

OneLoveMaybe it's the relative increase in capacity from the size of a tablet's battery? Still, seems like too much for the phones.
I've always had bad luck with those powered Y OTG cables. With my last attempt it seemed to either power the OTG device and not allow data, or allow data when the power is disconnected. Kinda pointless.

wolfinThe Galaxy S2 is simply built differently or has better firmware. The CEntrance pulls about 0.25 amps from any power source.
With the Note 5 connected to my Y cable the amps pulled from the external power supply drops to 0.13 because some power is still being taken from the Note 5.
In contrast, when i connect the Galaxy S2 Tablet there is a 0.01 increase in amps being pulled from the external power supply. No power draw from Tablet?
