Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

Do NOT skimp on the speaker positioning. I've found that the positioning of these are key. If they're not pointed at your ears then you're likely missing some of the high-end. When in doubt, just lift up the front with your hand and you'll notice a difference. As @cloud mentioned, the treble is very directed.
Sound quality is nice so far. Bassheads will likely be disappointed however, and will probably want to pair a small sub with these. Overall, very balanced.
Some test tracks worth considering: - City & Colour's "Little Hell" makes this setup sing. The Little Hell album is one of my favourite albums, and is mixed very well. My only issue is that the vocals at the beginning come out a little bit tinny, but after 1:00 everything is just perfect. Bass is exactly where it should be, and the drums carry enough punch to not sound weak, but don't overpower the focus of the guitar or vocals. - Nikki Yanofsky's "Bienvenue Dans Ma Vie" is amazing. The piano is bright without being overpowering. Listen to the detail in the drum snare, the guitar, and the accordion. - Tool's "Forty Six & 2" (tested on 24bit, 96K vinyl rip) sounds very impressive given the lack of a sub. Granted, Tool's music lends itself to more bass, but you'll definitely notice subtleties in the song that you never heard before. - Mediks's "Don't Let Go Ft. Sarah Watson". The bassline is impressive given the small form factor of these speakers. Bass feels very even regardless of what note was being played. The song is quite bassy, and I was expecting it to sound muddy, but was pleasantly surprised to find it was still quite crisp.
Cable build quality is awesome, but to be perfectly honest you could probably use a couple metal coat hangers as wires and I couldn't tell the difference. They look badass however, so that's a win in my book.
Overall, a very worthwhile purchase. Thanks, @CEntrance!
EDIT: Elevated the speakers about 35cm, and made a world of difference both in the highs and the bass. Not nearly as muddy as before, and the highs are crisper. Likely the desk was resonating with the bass a bit.
