You can press the power and volume buttons to put the mojo into line out mode. Do you have to do this every time you use it? Looking to use it as a desktop dac to tube amp.
Cookster997Because, based in the reviews I've read, the dac portion of the mojo is what makes it stand out from the competition. Do you think the ODAC is just as good?
PathworksHonestly? I don't know. I've never really seen any good objective analysis of DAC performance, not in the same way that you see with headphones.
I'm just thinking from a price / value standpoint. Why spend $500 on a DAC and amp, and only use perhaps half of that price? Why not look for a standalone DAC to pair with your amp that might give even better performance by utilizing the full $500 price?
Maybe that DAC doesn't exist. Maybe you will use the Mojo's probable abilities with a smartphone or laptop, and it will be worth it for you? I don't know, that is up to you to decide.
PathworksYou might wanna take those reviews with a huge amount of grain of salt. The differences among DACs provided they operating without defect is so miniscule that only people who lack other excitement in their lives will invent stories about them . The differences are always among the analog devices most notably the amps , even that will be dwarfed by the differences of the headphones themselves. Even if you are sucker for subjective "reviews " your own expectation bias could be different from others therefore your own conclusions could be quite the opposite. You wanna take a gamble like that?
TheHunI actually feel the same way you do about this and I'm pessimistic that any dac/amp combo can beat the dacs and amps I already own. But I read this post on head-fi and I just have to try it ( http://www.head-fi.org/products/chord-mojo/reviews/15517 ). I picked one up tonight for slightly less than MD price so I won't be buying here but I should have it by Wed. this week. I will do a comparison of my current setups and report back before this drop ends so stay tuned. If I don't think it is better then I'll report it. If it isn't better, like a wow moment, I'll return it. If it is better, then I'll be selling all my dacs and amps (Except for STAX 323S) and replacing them with this dac/amp. Here is what I have to compare with: Meridian Explorer (192/24). Roland UA (192/24 + DSD) don't have any DSD Hires files yet. Peachtree DACITx (192/24). Amps: little-dot MKIII and MKIV SE (both have tube upgrades). Cans - Beyerdynamic T1, Fostex TH900, STAX 323S to STAX 507s. Current players are foobar 2000 and Media Monkey. The majority of my hires files are 192/24 but I also have some at lower res. So my subjective analysis will not include DSD files as I only have one dac that can play them. Also, I don't have any hi-end IEMs so I won't be able to compare.
yoda23233Doubt it. the Jolida's best is 24/192 with stock chips. The Mojo uses custom software, derived from Chord's DAVE DAC, and plays native DSD. AND it's for mobile use' the Jolida's is a table-top DAC.
arrakianFrom the Mojo User manual: "...To set the output level to 3V ( line level ) for connection to a preamplifier press both volume buttons
together when switching on the unit. Both volume balls will illuminate light blue. This mode is not
remembered so when you switch off it will reset back to the previous volume stored for safety reasons."
So to answer my original questions it does not remember line out mode if powered off and on again. It appears the solution would be to leave it powered on when using it as a source to an amp/preamp or powered speakers.
PathworksMy bad. When I said "remember" ...In my case, I keep it plugged in and on with my CPU. It's only unplugged when I'm mobile, and it remembers my initial settings.
