Delightful little flipper
search
TL;DR: good knife, nice balance, well made, excellent value.

Longer version: The first thing some are going to notice are that there are design echoes of the ZT Sinkevich 0462. The Sinky ends up being quite a bit bigger, heavier, a lot more angular, with a different blade sweep and a scooped handle instead of a rounded one. Look at them side by side, you'll see all the geometric differences. Some folks still won't like the similarity but there's nothing here that a court of law would actually find constitutes actionable IP infringement, so most people aren't going to have an issue buying this for under $40 when the 0462 costs four to five times as much. With IP out of the way: how's it flip?
search
One of the smoother flipping knives I've got from Drop. Smoother than the $40 Bestechs I've scored -- harder liners that the bearings aren't digging up. How's it lock up?
search
Outstanding. The liner lock is all the way out there and making strong lockup. That's a plus: it's easy to make a knife flip well, it's easy to make a liner or frame lock jump out all the way onto the tang when it engages, it's hard to do both at the same time. This is well done. Blade milling?
search
Nice, you can see it even through the stonewash. Edge?
search
Sharpened competently, but not honed. That is to say, good, not great. How's it break down?
search
Nice and clean. Simple nylon bearing cages, some aluminum collars and backspacer, D-pivot. The scales wrap around the liners, which makes them look nice, but ends up darkening them somewhat compared to a jade G-10 scale that just sits on top of the liner and light can filter through it unimpeded. Still, they're thin enough that they should have some nice glow when dyed. Speaking of: Jade G10 Before:

I'm happy with it.

It's got a grain and a glow. If the liners were speed milled it'd be a little brighter in the light, but the liners are fairly light as it is.

Very pleased
Was impressed out the of the box with its looks, instantly had me thinking of rit dye jobs haha. The edge was there but needed some time on a strop and it turned to a razor. It also has a rather stiff detent that rips open, it wasn’t a problem for me but my brother had some problems the first time opening it. I like these sub $50 d2 knives for putting through their paces and have been dabbling with a couple bestech’s and wanted to branch out. Well the first think I did with it was cut shingles and the membrane that goes underneath while redoing the shed.... it took a beating and honestly I feel a little bad. I’m going to soak it soon in some paint thinner or something
search
to get all the crap off. I will say it kept cutting no matter now much shit built up on it haha id put it about there with the bestechs I have that are in that price range. The detent is definitely stiffer but otherwise they’re very comparable and would recommend either brand.

Loving the build quality so far
For this price, it really is a smooth flipper and good lockup. It's got good heft to it and feels sturdy. Probably a new edc for me. Unfortunately right when I was in the process of flipping the pocket clip to the other side, 1 of 2 torx screws' top broke off as I was fastening it. Not tightening mind you, just screwing it in fully and rather lightly.
search
It looks like some corrosion, anyone else think so?
search
Hoping the clip doesn't just wobble off now with 1 screw retaining it. And I doubt getting that broken screw out to replace would be too much fun.

MrSuicidalLooks like a manufacturer defect in the screw, cheap pot-metal. Should be fairly easy to remove.

MrSuicidalThat is clearly a defective screw. You can get replacement screws at knife parts supply stores. (Of course CJRB should give you some free, but until then...) if you are in USA search for USA Knife Maker . com (or take the spaces out) BUT, that can only help you if you know the thread and dimensions of the screw. With those pictures I cannot see how CJRB would not send you replacement hardware in a hurry. CJRB is a sub-brand of Aritsan Cutlery (You probably knew that) and here is their USA contact info artisancutlery.net (scroll to the bottom for an email form you can fill in or use the next info) 13089 Peyton Drive #C 618 . 1st CJRB Knife- Smashing
Please understand this right form the get-go...I am NO expert, not a huge collector, but rather Steve Carrell as the squirrel in Over the Hedge. I see a knife that makes me think of a cookie and I get the cookie. I decided to go with the Natural scales because, well look at them...they're unusually beautiful, as if the Gobi is enrobed in jade. The blade is not a style that I normally seek out - drop point FYI. Something about having a micro-scimitar appealed to me. All of this aside, the build quality, from what little I know of knives is solid. The blade is bloody sharp, it opens without any issues and the lock is unwavering(?). OK, bottom line, I would buy this knife again. I am actively keeping my eye out for other CJRB knives. If this one comes up again get it. Bit of a bother (05/27/2020)...I have changed the clip to the other side of the knife. While making this change, I snapped the head off one of the screws (???). I am not clumsy or vigorous with my tightening of any fasteners, preferring to get a feel for the tightness and leaving it at just enough. For reference, I used the iFixit Pro Tech Toolkit TR6 bit and driver to complete the work. Also only one of the two screw's head sheared off, leaving the remainder of the screw firmly in its hole...home...er you know what I mean. I have, in the past stripped or generally ruined my share of fasteners. More so due to a variance in the fastener and tool material. It has made me wary of being over-zealous...which invariably leads to more WORK. I cannot with any sort of confidence say that they screw was faulty, or was sub-standard as I did not assemble the Gobi, or make the screw. All I wanted to note here is what happened and to advise y'all who bought this knife, or are planning to purchase, to take your time, pay close attention and maybe not tighten the screws as much as you think.

Nice knife
This is really a pretty nice knife. Appears to be well constructed and arrived very sharp. The primary knock on this knife is that it’s Chinese made. I should have known. I’ll carry it some but obviously not show it to anyone I respect.

Really nice for the price
Background I’ll share this up front to show biases and expectations. I use knives daily and feel naked without one in my pocket or within reach. For the past 10-15 years I’ve bought a sub $100 folder about 2-3 times a year and splurged on something over $100 about once a year. I can’t justify anything above $200 ever to myself. I’ve exceeded the quantity since COVID/work from home, because I’ve enjoyed not having a 3” restriction Monday through Friday (work rules). A knife is a tool to me and not a weapon. I’ll always be an old school Boy Scout I guess. I care for them by habit. I’m a little abusive, but not enough to chip a decent steel. I have pretty mundane use: rope, freshwater fishing stuff, and yes, Amazon boxes and packaging. I do clean funk off the blade before folding always. I’ll hone a blade occasionally, but try to sharpen only when necessary with my Spyderco Sharpmaker, because I find it works well with less effort. I’m a practical sharpener and don’t get into the “pocket knife as a razor” or edge polishing. I guess I subscribe to the school of steel preservation. If you’re into sharpening as an art, I admire that, but my thoughts might not be as applicable to you. Fit and finish I bought the natural scales and really think they look cool and a nice change from black or drab green I usually buy. It contrasts well with the orange accents. It’s not important to me from a use sense, but looking cool always makes a purchase feel better. The flipper mechanism and lock are very satisfying for my fidget habits. It doesn’t flop open and the lock is firm. No wiggly blade while opening and no give when locked. I was worried that it would be too thin for my hands but it’s actually quite comfortable. I have long skinny fingers, so I’ll attach photos. Pocket clips are probably disproportionately important to me. These are not too tight where they damage the fabric of my jeans, but tight enough to hold firmly and not slip out when I sit down or pull stuff from my pocket. It’s firmly attached to the knife doesn’t have any wiggle and I haven’t had to locktite the screws back in like so many sub $100 knives. The scales are cut and lined up evenly, which is often an annoyance with inexpensive Chinese knives. The center of gravity is around the finger groove by the liner lock, which is a natural balance for me. Blade I was a little worried I wouldn’t like the blade shape or that the point would be brittle. Sometimes it’s hard to judge the thickness and just “feel” from photos. I really like it, though. The belly is so nice for slicing. It’s thick enough to be sturdy throughout, but not what I think of as “chunky.” Steel is a religious topic. Whether D2 is better or worse than others, I’ll leave to the million comments on the internet. I personally like D2, and this matches my experience with other well made D2 blades. I have had a couple that were too hard/brittle, but this seems consistent with my expectations. It came reasonably sharp OOB. It annoys me when I have to immediately sharpen a blade to be useful, and a sign I’ll likely be unhappy with it quickly. Parting thoughts Almost every sub $100 knife is a bit of a gamble. But I think I’ll enjoy this as an EDC for a good while. It’s made my “knives I don’t travel with” (except camping/fishing) list out of fear of losing it. I’ll save that for the last one I got 🤦‍♂️ And I’ll show some phone camera shots featuring my cat.

Impressed with initial quality!
I have to say I was thoroughly impressed upon unboxing. I think my last pocket knife purchase was a Case with carbon steel blade...decades ago. I put this through its paces almost immediately (as we had already scheduled a camping trip) and it performed its duties splendidly!
