What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

You get what you pay for.
This is a small boutique offerring and only a few (apparently) will be able to afford this level of quality and attention to detail and personalization. There are a bunch of posts explaining the cost in detail, please read those. Then read up on Globalization of production, mass-produced goods and why they are inexpensive by comparison and hopefully you'll understand.
The dude who put this together obviously has a love for this hobby, knows his stuff and is ready to let others enjoy his passion. I wish I could participate. Believe me; I do.
Unfortunately, I can not afford this keyboard. I wish I could. I spent a futile 15 minutes last night explaining to my wife why this was something I needed, why this is a great keyboard, Zealios and the GMK caps (I didn't even convert the cost to Canadian dollars). But in the end I just ended up sounding like Gollum: "my precious. I wants it, I needs it!"
I can not emphasize the sheer disinterest and eye-rolling that occurred when I began to explain my current Cherry MX Blue Das Keyboard and the differences based on what I've read about Zealios and the need for those beautiful and unique GMK Triumph 610 keycaps. That conversation was a tough one, now let's never speak of it again.
Wampa101-out!
Usually ladies don't expect keyboards to cost much, so when it arrives, its much easier to justify its just a keyboard. Also, when my wife asks me "why do you need so many keyboards?" I just tell her "its just a hobby, would you rather I get into watches? cameras? golf? cars?" then she will quickly side with keyboard as those are much more expansive. Good luck.
