Why is this keyboard so expensive? It reaches the same price level of a FILCO, yet I doubt it surpasses a FILCO in terms of quality, recognition, feel or appearance. By the way, I think a less pricy Leopold FC750R (front faced, Cherry red) is likely to beat this one in every aspect, except the backlit feature.
vaxus7I have a Filco MJ2 and a CODE, and I prefer my Filco. My CODE board is just sitting in the closet, only used it for a week. If anyone is interested (mx clears), send me a message (netherlands area).
FrankyRThat's what I was thinking. Either WASD or CODE is of no rival to FILCO as far as I can tell. And I just learned WASD V2 has only single layer PCB, which seems to be a bad sign. At $120+ level, my favorites are still FILCO (feel) and Leopold (quality, especially that front faced thick PBT keyset).
vaxus7Yes, Leopold is great as well. My next keyboard will definitely be a Leopold F6600C.
What I didn't like about my CODE are the stabilizers. While I'm a big fan of Costar stabs, the sliders on the CODE are flat (instead of round) on the long side which makes them very annoying to attach (except for the spacebar). The Filco ones are the straight and round, like they should be.
vaxus7PCB layers just means how many layers of traces you have on the PCB - it has 0 effect on the boards performance. In fact, a single layer PCB will be easier to repair if you accidentally damage it. To put it in perspective, your computer motherboard is a multilayer design (~8 usually), hi end audio amplifiers will tend to be single layer to reduce crosstalk at the price of a bigger motherboard. In keyboards, I'd prefer a single layer, but only so it's easy to hack - should I decide to do so. It will have ZERO effect on the boards performance.
