Recently I found an interesting and I think pretty qualified review about this knife on Bladereviews:

Good read. Thanks for sharing that

yeah i kinda get what you mean. but for me i would imagine using it to cut open carton boxes when they arrive in the mail and that's about it. other times it would be in my free hand, flipping it open and close in the office non stop until someone calls security.
Guess it depends on what your general day involves. For myself I'd never actually *need* a blade in day to day life between office work & running errands, but something like this is far more convenient to have on me than trying to track down a pair of scissors that may or may not be there or opening a package with my keys. Worst thing it'd ever have to do is break through some annoying plastic packaging. I haven't had to break down a box in years or cut rope since I was a kid, so anything larger than this wouldn't make sense for me and just be too bulky to justify bringing every day.
I got this for EDC at work to use instead of my "vintage" 4" voyager. I am very happy with this knife so far! It was very sharp and easy to open as delivered. A drop of oil and a couple dozen open/close cycles smoothed it out a bit as it had a little hesitation when closing. A week of use and I bet it will get better. I will use this for general warehouse use including cutting heavy cardboard and vinyl/PVC banding. The handle feels a little slick compared to my Voyager. This knife does have a good grip though and the finger area below the pivot and behind the choil seems adequate to prevent slipping when your cut has pressure inline with the blade. I found my index and middle finger well placed when using a fencers grip. I may grind a few cuts in the spring to match the reliefs ( as long as it does not weaken the spring!) to improve thumb purchase. I could also see a little smoothing of the safety release edge as it is a little too sharp on the thumb when releasing the lock. Overall I am very happy with this knife! I wish I would have bought a few as gifts.
At this price I think this is a good knife, for sure. Yes, opening and especially closing the blade can and probably will be a bit hard/difficult at first. But when it's broken in, it should be fine. Handling this CS Pro Lite is easier and more ergonomic in comparison with my CS Code 4 IMHO. The 4116 blade steel is relatively soft so it won't hold its edge as long as some high end steels but is very easy to sharpen.
Congratulations Massdrop, you're selling another knife below wholesale dealer cost (By $2.01 this time)! If shipping was free I'd grab one.
This was my first knife purchase. Came razor sharp. A little bit of WD40 loosened it a bit. I enjoy using this knife! Its my throw away in the tool box knife.
for those who want to know about the steel... its decent for a budget steel the knife tested is NOT this knife. so im not sure if they made it more soft or not, but if the heat treat is the same, it should be a solid performer according to the video. anyways, with that said.. it is still soft steel and may roll a bit too, would recommend the bos 420HC steel over 4116.

No finger guard means trouble when you least need it...
Change it to a better steel, make it a liner lock, add $50 to the price and I would buy both of them.

Is this a shipped price?
I bought one on the last drop and it was frustratingly hard to close this knife. After a couple months of light use, it's operating much more normally. It still takes some force to close, but nothing extraordinary (I prefer for it to take some effort to unlock for safety).
There is a suggestion somewhere to leave the blade open for about a week or so, and that was a great help. I'm very satisfied with this value priced knife.

I bought one, and I didn't quite like the size. I need a bigger one maybe in the 5 inch blade variety

A stiff closer makes a solid locking mechanism. I have had A Cold Steel tanto for years now and it's still harder than any of my other knives. But I also am quite sure it's never going to malfunction what with the positive tactile feedback I get when it snaps open. Maybe you should strengthen your hands and stop whining. No need for the blown gasket routine, I'm only teasing. There are videos that show how to disassemble and tweak the action so it's a bit easier.
Pretty decent blade, but locking mechanism required significant grinding to get it to a remotely usable state. From factory is was almost impossible to close without exerting a ton of force on the spine lock, which has rather sharp edges and not terribly comfortable.
While I do like CS products, I cannot recommend this knife.
I bought several of these on clearance from MidwayUSA for $15 each. I have several Cold Steel knives, but these have the the most difficult to employ back locks yet. Sometimes, I have to hit the release against a counter to get it to move. Also, these knives seem strong, but there are no liners inside the fiberglass reinforced nylon scales. The Pivot uses nylon bushings. The German 4116 steel is relatively soft, but very corrosion resistant. The pocket clip is screwed into a tiny steel plate that falls free once the screws are removed. To get them in place, I had to disassemble the knife. Disassembly of the knife is relatively easy. Cold Steel almost made a good budget knife here, but, even at $15 delivered, it was not a good purchase.
UPDATE: Now that I worked the knives enough to break them in, They work fine and go into my carry rotation. They are not as free moving as my other Cold Steel knives (3 Recon 1 large, 1 Recon 1 XL, Code 4), but they function very well now. It took a ton of hard opening and closing and now, all it well. These knives take an extremely sharp edge.. cut myself without feeling it.
Received my Tanto and gave it away within a week.
The design sold me on this unit. Upon arrival, I quickly assessed a potential danger with this knife: single-hand/flick opening only. Bad for a small room.
It was SO sharp, as well. This made me extra vigilant, which is not why we carry.
I just couldn't relax with this piece.
Too bad. Oh, well.

it was VERY sharp wasn't it... its not that high quality steel though it would have balanced out to reassonble sharpness soon

Everything you said here is ridiculous.

I've had the Recon for EDC for 2 years. What a great knife. I'm expecting the same from this new collection. Hard to beat that Triad lock it's always solid with all the use I put it through. This will be for my Brother In Law who goes through the dimestore knives every three months. This will put an end to that! Happy Holidays MD'rs!
I have one of these and love it!!!
How do i get the fast shipping
WolfyMcLupus
The only way to get fast shipping is to buy from somewhere else.
CTS-HXP would be great.
TheRaven
I'm sure in that case both MSRP and MD prices would have gone significantly up.

CS likes the aus-8 which isn't very great steel but it does well in their demo tests
