Hello. I received this pen today. I'm actually not very happy. It spent 7 days stuck in customs, which I understand is no ones fault, but was kind of frustrating. Then it arrived. Somehow I was charged $18.00 for taxes and handling. I looked into this. Canada post is allowed to charge handling on anything that has taxes assessed on them. I know that this is not on Massdrop, but again, frustrating.
Then I opened it up. The pen is gorgeous. I love how it looks and feels. Then I put in some ink and tried to write.
It doesn't write. I checked the tines and found the problem. The tines are about 1.5mm apart all the way down, wide open. No way to create any flow. As a hobby I restore vintage pens, so this is something I can fix myself, but, frankly, I am annoyed that I have to.
What you need to do is GENTLY push the sides of the tines, between the shoulder and the tip, against a harder surface (I use the side of my table), alternating between both sides, and consistently checking the slit with a magnifier (loupes are ideal, but a good magnifying glass should be good enough, or putting up the nib against a bright light in the background, unless you're Superman LOL). Aim for the slit to taper down from the breather hole to the nib, with a hair's-breadth separating the tips. This might move the tines slightly out of alignment, so be prepared to fix this if it happens.
ShahrinCamilleI'm having more problems with this pen. I ended up mostly fixing the ink flow problems with the tines on my black stub nib, but now it seems as if a tiny bit of the black paint has chipped off halfway down the center of the tines. This did not happen when I was working on the tines and I have not dropped/scraped the pen on the nib. Really sad with they way this is turning out.
Whoah! Next to my Lamy 2000, this guy is monstruous! It's the biggest fountain pen I own so far, but it feels amazing to hold and the mosaic pattern is lovely! I went for the stub nib and I'm very pleased with it so far.
