I performed a little research on these Darn Tough socks, and just for clarification for those of you who may be interested in this sock; you should realize that Darn Tough makes two versions of this sock as outlined below.
The sock being offered in this drop is the Coolmax® Boot Sock Full Cushion, Men's #1933. Link follows below:
https://darntough.com/collections/mens-hike-trek/products/coolmax-coolmax-boot-sock-full-cushion?variant=30180787911
Darn Tough also manufactures a sock with an almost identical name which they call the Coolmax® Hiker Boot Sock Cushion, Men's #1941. Link follows below:
https://darntough.com/collections/mens-hike-trek/products/coolmax-hiker-boot-sock-cushion?variant=34508604103
The difference between the socks seems to be the percentage of Coolmax fibers in each sock.
The sock with the higher percentage of Coolmax (the #1933 being offered here), is referred to as a full cushion sock, as compared to the #1941 being referred to as a mid-level, or medium cushion sock.
In case anyone is interested, following is the breakdown of the different fibers by percentage, that comprise each sock.
#1933 Men's Coolmax® Boot Sock Full Cushion offered here by Massdrop... 41% Coolmax® Polyester, 27% Nylon, 26% Acrylic, 5% Lycra® Spandex, 1% Other fiber.
#1941 Men's Coolmax® Hiker Boot Sock Cushion 35% Coolmax® Polyester, 34% Nylon, 28% Acrylic, 3% Lycra® Spandex, 1% Other fiber
Based upon current pricing at other retailers, this seems to be a good deal with free shipping.
Most retailers are selling these socks for around $20 to $24 for each pair.
If you purchase the boot socks, then you will pay $17.50 each, and again with no shipping costs, so around a 20% to 25% discount.
You would have to meet a minimum purchase on most other sites in order to get free shipping.
The socks come with a lifetime guarantee, so if you need a good warm weather hiking sock, that you will never need to purchase again, even if they do wear out, then this may be a good sock purchase for you.
I read a review by a few thru-hikers whose Darn Toughs actually wore out after 1000 miles.
After washing the socks, they were mailed back to Darn Tough in Vermont, and the hikers received a new pair in the mail at no cost to them.
You can read the actual Darn Tough warranty/guaranty, and download their warranty/guaranty form at this link.
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1354/8177/files/DT_WarrantyForm_2017-06-01.pdf?831511425577376975
By the way, there are other sock companies with unconditional lifetime warranties like Feetures, and Wrightsock, though the language used by Darn Tough, seems to be the most unconditional if that makes sense.
Wigwam has a lifetime warranty, but only as it pertains to defects in materials and workmanship, so undoubtedly they will deny a claim based upon normal wear and tear, as opposed to Darn Tough, Feetures, or Wrightsock.
Icebreaker warranties their socks for a year if the stitching is faulty, but also offers a lifetime guaranty if for any reason that you are not happy, so the Icebreaker warranty seems good, but a little less concrete than Darn Tough, Feetures, or Wrightsock.
Surprisingly Smartwool only has a two year warranty!
Bridgedale has a three year warranty on any wool socks.
I own some Bridgedale wool hiking socks that I bough as seconds from Sierra Trading Post 15 years ago, that are still in great shape after many miles of hiking. The socks I own were made in Ireland, where Bridgedale is headquartered, if that makes a difference.
Thorlo offers only a 30 day no risk trial, but absolutely no warranty on the wear of the sock. I never had good luck with Thorlos.
Defeet seems to only offer a 90 day return with no information that I could find about any warranty.
REI has a 100% satisfaction guaranty for up to a year, but they explicitly exclude normal wear an tear.
If you purchase anything at stores like Eddie Bauer, LL Bean, Orvis, or Lands End, then they will also allow lifetime returns on anything they sell.
In case anyone is interested, following please find a couple of links to two lists of many brands that offer 100% satisfaction, or lifetime warranties on their products.
https://www.thepennyhoarder.com/deals/companies-with-lifetime-warranties/
https://www.gobankingrates.com/saving-money/32-brands-lifetime-warranties/#2
By the way, I am just a regular hiker, backpacker, and consumer, and don't work for Darn Tough, or Massdrop, nor do I receive any compensation from any entity mentioned here, should you decide to purchase the Darn Tough socks.
Just trying to be helpful, and performing a little research for myself that I decided to share.
Hope it helps someone.

Nice info. Just wanted to add that I've sent one pair of Darn Tough socks back after wearing a hole in both socks. Yes, the do send you a new pair, but you do pay shipping costs. So, it worked out to getting a new pair for half price. Still, a great deal, but certainly not without a cost.

jayschu71I guess that having to pay shipping is fair, after using the socks and wearing them out.
I would think that you could send the socks back via First Class USPS, for a couple of dollars in a large manila envelope.
I'm looking at my socks, and they could easily be put in an envelope.
Not sure what Darn Tough would charge, but it would probably be no more than $6 or $7 dollars via UPS.
Many places won't use the less expensive USPS.
You could also move near to where they make them in Vermont, and just drop by the offices. LOL

Who wants socks that has "Darn Tough" written on the front like that? They should rethink their lame logo placement. Otherwise very nice socks.

lmfao. |"so much" ??dude.. back in 2010 when Peter Jackson probably wasn't even aware of them yet I was wearing those same extra beefy green smartwool socks (( seen in some 2012-2013 interview videos)) that cost 20 bucks a pair(and I thought it was too cheap and too fucking good buy).
but of course, MSRP. I mean you probably will find these socks going for 20 bucks a pair in stores as well.
also you sound like you get paid by Darn Tough to write this wall of text

lyrillIyrill - They are expensive for me - for a sock. Perhaps you're blessed with a better financial situation or feel justified in the expense - whatever - it's your money and your opinion. I felt it was a silly argument from dogen that he/she was unwilling to purchase these socks because of their name above the toes - which I felt was illogical considering you would rarely see the branding considering they'd be inside your shoe/boot...and even if you were one of those who were willing to look silly enough to wear socks with sandals it's likely the toe strap would block or obscure the branding also. And I can assure you I don't work for darn tough...though if they'd like to supplement my income I'll gladly write walls of text for them - heck they can send me some free pairs of their expensive socks in recompense. Just because someone is satisfied with a product/company doesn't mean they 'work' for them. Some just hate wasting money on poor products and appreciate the assistance of other consumers when spending their money. Happy new year.

This seems like a terrible deal. $42 for 3 pairs of socks? Pfft.
helloimneilThese socks last DECADES. that is not an exaggeration. I've yet to have a pair of these show any sort of wear. I bought my first pair 5 years ago. I still wear those socks weekly.
You'll actually save money on socks in terms of total dollars spent on socks if you put the upfront investment on these. And your feet will thank you. Way more comfortable. Look better. Feet won't stink.

helloimneilI normally wear cheaper socks as well, but I think it's worth trying a pair or two to compare. My only 2 pairs of darn tough socks are 2 years old already and still going strong compared with my other socks in my drawers which needed to be replaced.

A bit of a bad news everyone.
It was suppose to be a pretty straight forward inbound shipment from Darn Tough, but because of the rather inefficient process from Darn Tough, there were repeated mistakes made on the shipment. In the end, Darn Tough have to reach out to UPS on two separate occasions to correct the shipping address to ensure the shipment is coming to our warehouse. And unfortunately, this added several additional days to the shipping time.
As it currently stands, this shipment is set to arrive our warehouse by next Tuesday. We'll be all hands on deck to make sure to have this reship out to everyone as soon as possible.
Thanks for your patience and expect an update from us on 1/30 or sooner.

Would join but the inability to choose separate colours kills the deal for me. I like being able to look in my pack and know which socks is which. I joined the last drop that had no colour choice because I will use them as day hikers but am not interested in any further multi-sock drops without variety! I realize massdrop has stated at these prices they can no longer do it but just wanted to voice my opinion as honestly I would rather pay a few bucks more to be able to choose different colours!

Oh they are useful tips for sure! Don't get me wrong I am not saying it is impossible to keep a system going without relying on the different colours but for me with the cost of international shipping tacked on it just isn't worth saving a bit of money to not be able to get exactly what I want locally.
I don't mind Massdrop doing whatever works best for them however just wanted to let them know maybe they should re-consider or consider adding in an additional handling fee if people wanted multiple colours. Just voicing my opinion though so they are aware of it ;) Even if I am just a little fish in a giant pond!
Sorry I can't help you out about the sizing but my educated guess would be since it uses no wool it might have a bit more stretch in it making the sizing a bit more forgiving but again no experience just a thought!
westcoastYou can tell the difference from the feel & pattern.

Massdrop - go back to selling the individual socks in sets of 3 so we can change up the colour and design. Until that happens I won't be buying more socks from you.

kmillmanYup. I like to buy different sizes as well, so my wife gets a new pair, or I can give them as birthday/Christmas gifts.
Plus I feel like the price keeps creeping higher and higher.

I had a pair of these a few years back. They really made my feet stink after just a few hours. It was gross and basically inexplicable, since my feet don't normally stink with other socks. The antimicrobial properties of merino are a huge reason I wear only wool socks, since they prevent that problem. If I want cooler socks, I'll buy thinner merino socks.
Fortunately, DT traded them over for me, and I'm a loyal customer, but I won't buy these particular socks again.

Glad I could help!
It would seem that the saying "Buy once, cry once," applies to the Darn Tough socks.
This was a good deal however, so not much to cry about at around $17..75 total per pair delivered for the boot height sock.

These are the ONLY socks that never develop any holes whilst using them.
They're almost hole proof and withstand serious sweat over many days, I still buy some more despite having some older pairs available.
I fear the day when this company stops making them.

Of the four drops I've participated in, only one has shipped on time as expected, one was reasonably delayed, and two (this one included) have been delayed beyond explanation and without adequete updates.
If you say you will provide an update 'on 2/13 or sooner', you should do so, even if it is a short message saying 'we don't have any information, sorry, will update when we know more'. If you don't plan to post, I, as a customer would prefer not to get a time frame at all.
This site is becoming kickstarter-esque to me: Pay and forget I spent the money, then be pleasantly surprised when the product shows up on my doorstep.
Although I admittedly appreciate the deals, I've told myself twice that that was the last one for me. I'm afraid this is experience is in the same boat.

gx1400@gx1400 @LDphifty
I apologize for the sparse updates for this drop. We have been continually getting conflicting shipment promises from Darn Tough, and it's been very difficult for us to rely on their shipment forecast at this point.
We've determined that we are unable to rely on Darn Tough to ship us the remaining order within a reasonable timeframe. As a result, we have sourced all of the remaining socks from numerous third party suppliers independently, and we are expecting the shipments to arrive starting tomorrow, with the last shipment scheduled by mid next week.
We understand the fulfillment time for this drop has been far too long, but we are very confident that everything will be wrapped up by next week. For everyone that are affected by this extended delay, we will also be including an extra pair of the Darn Tough work socks for the trouble.

I really hope that is a typo or you meant just the extra pair was the DT work socks. I joined this drop for 2 pairs of COOLMAX CUSHIONED BOOT SOCKS.
