What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

Anyone have a better suggestion?
I also put the Vortex BPT caps on my boards, an yeah, it's a really nice upgrade. Well worth doing.
However, I later put red WASD O rings on both boards and discovered that only the Brown switches with the double shot BPT caps worked with the O rings installed.
On the Blue board, the extra support plastic on the underside of the cap for the double shot legends lowered the inside ceiling of the cap too much. With the O ring installed, the keystroke would bottom out too soon after the click, and it didn't feel right.
With the Brown switches, this was not an issue. Maybe because there isn't a click on the Browns.
Still, the extra weight and texture of the BPT caps elevate the typing experience over the stock ABS caps.
Because of my positive experience with DAS boards, I really hope this drop goes through.
Are the Vortex blanks black? In the pictures they almost look charcoal instead of black... (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/vortex-pbt-keycaps)
O rings are something I haven't tried. Will have to do that someday.
Here's a photo of mine with the Vortex PBT caps:
I need to clean those caps though. They've been on there almost a year at this point.
