Mech experts, I want your opinion: I want to get a bit more into mech keyboards. Seeing this keyboard here, I'm thinking about buying it. I did a bit of research and it feels like the clears are perfect for me. I'm currently using a Logitech G710+ Keyboard (MX brown). It's fine, albeit a bit dirty.
Is it worth buying this keyboard considering my current keyboard is fine? Should I wait until my current keyboard fails? Thank you for your time and opinions! :)

CreepyPieUnless you spill something on it or something else out of the ordinary happens, your G710+ probably won't fail for years.

CreepyPieHi,
"I did a bit of research and it feels like the clears are perfect for me." Research doesn't help, in the end you've to try! To make it even worse, it's not the switch only in the end, it's the composition of the whole mk, build quality, case ... The same clear switches pinging like hell at a Code mk might be hell, clear switches at a Ducky Black Mamba for example might be heaven.
"Is it worth buying this keyboard considering my current keyboard is fine? Should I wait until my current keyboard fails?"
It's up to you, some people like to have only one mk, others like to collect/hording them, rotate or only look at them from time to time. There's no right or wrong, personal decision, which is fine what ever you prefer!

MakamiThanks! But if I have to try, then how will I ever buy a mech keyboard? I mean, most shops 'round here don't have keyboards out of the box for testing, and I certainly can't test this one. I guess videos and reviews are viable options, but with a keyboard like this one, a massdrop exclusive, I'm not sure it's possible. I'm assuming clears will be good for me because honestly, they address the only "issue" I have with the browns (not really an issue but just something I think will improve the experience for me).
As you can probably tell I'm an amateur when it comes to MK, so any and all tips are much appreciated.

CreepyPieLike the rest of us, read and research as much as you can, maybe look for mates, mk meetups ... to test. In the end you've to judge if the "risk" of being disappointed is worth it for you, after all if you really don't like it, chances are good to sell it at https://www.reddit.com/r/mechmarket/ or https://geekhack.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=pajdkl0duhept6lqln03sc0gvqr50rf5&board=59.0 without (much) loss.

CreepyPieDon't know if you're up for fullsize or tkl, but i would have gotten one of these in tkl, which isn't given: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/epicgear-defiant-modular-mechanical-keyboard
Stylewise the same direction, the caps would be neglected by me anyway, but the opportunities for switchmodding without (de)soldering are very tempting, one could get some clear switches to fool around, too. Of course some work needed: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/epicgear-defiant-modular-mechanical-keyboard/talk/393943, and that orange stylebreaker at the top of the mk needs to get painted :)

MakamiThat's exactly b why I was worried about the type of keycap. I know part of the great feeling that comes with my pok3r with clears are the thick keycaps. I'm not sure I want to pay 170 bucks plus taxes and then have to buy extra caps when there are other clear MX offerings popping up here every now and then. What makes this drop worth it over say, a code keyboard?

MooseGooseThere comes a point in time when you just have to pull the trigger... I was a bit of a hoarder but I ended up gifting the switches I didn't care much about to friends and family vs. deal with haggling fools on craigslist.
Boards using the exact same switches from different manufacturers, and even within the same manufacturer with a different model, do feel different! I've been through over half a dozen boards with MX Browns (switch of choice) and no two 'felt' the same. It's all subjective and comes down to how much you're willing to spend on a potential bust.
I'm lucky to be surrounded by other mech board enthusiasts so I've had a chance to try most of the mass produced MX switches from the main manufacturers. That being said, I was never a fan of Logitech, Ducky, Das, and Razer.
As for my collection, I'm down to four: 2 x Leopold FC660M (MX Brown with Leopold profile PBT caps) 1 x CODE 104 key (MX Clear with Cherry profile PBT caps) 1 x WASD v2 (MX Brown with Cherry profile PBT caps)

CreepyPieIf the typing experience is important to you, then you might enjoy owning multiple keyboards with different configurations. I started out with one mech and stuck with that for a while. Fast forward a few years and now I have several boards, each quite different from the rest. I really like having the option to change up the typing experience depending on my mood.

CreepyPieI just got into mech keyboards a couple years ago and I recommend you do what I did - before you commit to your first mech keyboard sight unseen, spend about $20 (US) and buy a switch tester (i.e. "sampler") that has a variety of Cherry MX switches in it. It's not the same as typing on an actual keyboard stocked with the same switch, but it will let you put your actual fingers on keys atop the actual switches and compare them/figure out what you like. Well worth the money, IMHO. Here's a good example of one: http://goo.gl/R8YPwy

caduncanIf you want to get an even better feel, purchasing something like the Teamwolf keyboard with swappable switches is a great option nowadays. Lets you really test anything including mixing switch types on the same board. I think something like it would be a pretty good option for someone's first board.
