$38.00 + $7.95(S&H)=$45.95...probably receive within a week of order for $2.21 more than MD
can two of these be linked together e.g. one for input and one for output to form a wireless bridge?

No, the input jack is just a passthrough to the output jack on the same unit. When line in is selected, you can't even control the volume.

Wait so this says it supports existing multiroom setups... So this isn't a direct replacement for a SONOS type system, it's used in conjunction with one? Or would you buy multiple Dayton boxes per-room? I have a CCA plugged into my speaker set up in my attic, a CCV in each of my TVs (I'm watching Netflix, google can do whatever they want with that data), and one of my TVs has a sound system hooked up to it... So is this the kind of thing where I could open the app and choose to 'cast' (for lack of a better word) audio to each box specifically using the headphone out? And I wonder if it allows you to choose any / all / select (i.e. 1, 3, 5, 6 out of 123456)
I don't fully understand this product, how does it supports multi room music and Airplay at the same time? Will it support multiform only through the Dayton app (if it so its not that great) and why not just getting and Apple TV to stream music (for the apple heads)
Two more commentaries on the poor sound quality of Chromecast Audio from experts in digital audio; http://www.digitalaudioreview.net/2016/09/ifi-spdif-ipurifier-entry-level-pricing-next-level-results/ http://thehbproject.com/en/reviews/184/Google-Chromecast-Audio High jitter on the optical output is the main culprit. not surprising. The Airport Express has the same issue while the Apple TV optical does not. Some speakers will break up with high jitter. "Think that the galvanic isolation of TOSLINK is the answer. Think again. The way many a digital audio engineer tells it, electrical noise and/or jitter can blur the square wave to such an extent that the DAC’s receiver chip triggers additional layers of error-checking circuitry which then introduce more noise to the DAC’s sensitive internals causing disturbance to its super-sensitive clock and therefore more jitter." Also sound quality tops out at 96khz so if your flac is higher than that well too bad.
The reviews on parts express were not very flattering. It looks like you have to use their app which has limited music sources, but it appears in this discussion that this is not true is that correct? For instance, the app doesn't have Pandora; can I just AirPlay stream it directly without the app?
What's the advantage of this over a Chromecast Audio?

Darwin it looks to me like the bulk of the articles you list are not at all scientific but are instead shills for SPDIF cleaners they are trying to sell. Here is a very scientific (means actually measuring the outputs) review of CCA by a guy who is not selling anything: http://archimago.blogspot.com/2016/02/measurements-google-chromecast-audio_27.html Worth the read...bottom line, Chromecast audio can reproduce bit perfect digital using toslink and the jitter is measurable but not audible.
The Dayton does not give audiophiles the option of by-passing whatever built in DAC it has cause no digital out.
That said, the real difference for the great majority of those considering Dayton vs. CCA is the user experience, app quality, and if it supports streaming sources you use. I am very happy with CCA sound quality and user experience.

Thanks that's a good read. I never put too much thought into the CCA before, I didn't realize they offered an optical pass through
