Product Description
Our fourth collaboration with custom knife shop Ferrum Forge, the Buc (short for buccaneer) is the most daring yet—and now it comes in milled patterns for a touch of extra flair. It takes inspiration from traditional Asian cavalry sabres, which is in large part thanks to designer Elliot Williamson’s interest in historical edged weapons Read More

Between the speed holes is just half drilled milling. Nothing is inlaid. And thank you.

Mail call... TEN STARS! Awesomeness. The scales are tumbled beautifully, didn't know they would be. Sharp as sh*t. Came with a nice large cleaning cloth and a black zippered pouch. Cool blue anno'd clip and back spacer. Better than expected. Best knife purchase all year!

Smooth opening, well balanced, lighter than expected. Handle is on the narrow side but makes the overall blade more manageable. The price point of around $115 makes it a great piece to own, but I don’t see myself using it as a daily driver.

I have and have owned 50+ knives in this knife hobby in the last 8 years. With the handling of a bunch of different knives at a bunch of different price points, like many others here, I have become a bit of a knife snob. That said, Massdrop is KILLING IT with their collaborations and production recently. I own a Ferrum Forge Masterblaster knife ($650) and the Buc is on par with their other designs. I love the Buc! Even the bronze /blue finish impressed me. The jimping on the blade, backspacer and the flipper tab is a bit aggresive, but I dont mind it. Finger choil is a good size and functional. Pocket clip is springy, works great and did not create a hotspot in my size Large hand. The blade action is crisp on the open and smooth as it almost drops shut. It came covered in a bit of oil and I plan to open it up and clean it out after a week which may make it smoother. Ok, I confess that I love wharncliffe/cleaver bladeshapes and have only been carring it for a few days. But It appears to have no problems and at a much higher quality than what others sell at this price point. Again Massdrop is raising the bar for quality and affordability. If you are reading these reviews, you are on the fence about getting one. This is one to get for sure before it dissapears. Very well done Massdrop!

whipsterGreat video on this knife- I missed the first Massdrop on this item but it’s back and after watching your video I’m getting it! Good job liked it. Keep doing them I feel it helps to see a video on a product and listening to a persons impressions of it. Thanks brother

got mine today. it is awesome. The detent is a bit strong but will probably loosen up a bit. it weighs 103.3 grams. feels very solid, i love the slim profile on it. will be carrying it for awhile to confirm weather i do indeed like it or not for EDC. i got number OL370. its a smidge larger than the Gent but almost double the weight just for comparison.

The letters are the model and the numbers are then serial number of that model.

the OZ is the color and the number is the number manufactured. You got the 72nd knife in the OZ color that was made. The next run of these won't be serialized. Most of massdrops first knife collaborations are serialized.

Had a whole review written, which I borked on trying to add the second photo. I ain't gonna do it again, so - short review: The Buc is a killer value, great design, good ergos for my not-so-big mitts, smooth operator, cuts 18-22 gauge bell wire like a champ and is worth every penny I paid for it. Spent last weekend camping with a bunch of knife knuts (mostly fixed blade folks, one Spyderco fan and one custom maker) and all had positive comments - it spent quite a bit of time being passed around. Carries "small"-ish, but with a metric $#!+-ton of utility when open. Detent on mine is smooooth, unlike a few ZTs I own. WE deserves the bulk of the credit for this fantastic EDC option, IMO - compares favorably to folders I own costing 3x as much (I really dig this blade, if you couldn't tell ;)). Second pic shows size in comparison to another MD purchase, the Bestech Warwolf - which, for those with budget constraints, is a phenomenal value - as are the other D2 Bestechs offered by MD. The Buc is without a doubt (IMO) an absolute grade A value, from point to hilt. Nice to see the added options on the second drop....tho it feels like MD is trying to entice me into a second Buc purchase. I think mine is gonna last a very long time, tho. I heartily recommend this flipper.

Mine is the original blue, and holy friggin cow. Easily the best action on any knife (I own way too many!) in my collection. Only thing I would change is the finish. A light stone wash would be good, considering these are huge smudge magnets.

JsunkdAgreed, Once I release the lockbar and the detent ball is passed the blade just glides to a close. I didn't really understand people when they would talk about hydraulic closing, I do now. Makes me like the blade shape even more.

Amazing knife, screams quality. This is not a knife that you would expect to get for under 120 dollars, for that matter under 150+. My only quibble is that the blade is visually more pronounced than I expected from the pics. The upper part at the front of the blade is definitely large.
Feel in hand is great though and the extra blade weight makes it a fall shut knife that rockets open once you break past the detent resistance. WE Knife Co just makes an excellent product. I suggest you get this once the drop goes live again if you like quality titanium frame lock knives.

A mini / bullet-point review : 1.) Ergonomics for knife spine, finger choil, and upper portion for handle are ideal for a comfortable grip that chokes up on the blade. 2.) Pocket clip works well and does not eat / wear the pant's pocket. However, it is noticeable in hand and could be uncomfortable after extended use. Knife is easier carried with the pocket clip but will be more comfortable without it. Fortunately, there's a lanyard hole to help when carried deep in the pocket. 3.) Blade steel (cpm-s35vn) is excellent and appears to have a proper heat-treatment. To my surprise, the knife did not appear to dull when cutting hard plastic tubing. I get similar (if not identical) performance out of my cpm-s30v Spyderco's. 4.) The blade grind results in a strong tip and feels like a nice slicer. The spine is relatively thick, so it isn't going to be the best slicing tool for thick media. However, the thick spine helps with blade strength and the high grind helps optimize the cutting performance for this particular blade. 5.) Gimping on the back spacer is also noticeable in hand, but is recessed just far enough to allow for decent traction without being uncomfortable. 6.) My knife handle was anodized bronze with a blue back-spacer and pocket clip. It was beautifully done in a way to downplay the presence of scratches and snail trails in the titanium over time. 7.) The lock-up is solid and the frame lock was well designed with tight tolerances. I have not noticed any blade play. 8.) The flipping action is excellent. The ball bearings, strong detent, and blade momentum make this a smooth flipper. 9.) I enjoy carrying this knife, but it is best suited for carry in jeans / heavy cotton slacks. I find it a little too heavy to carry in a pair of lightweight synthetic pants / shorts. Although, it has a heft to it that feels nice in hand and looks of high quality. 10) In terms of durability, I'm not sure how well the bearing system can handle torque or debris. As long as no torque (accidental or otherwise) is applied to the blade and it is kept clean, I believe it can handle some heavy cutting tasks. I am a little afraid to drop this knife on a hard surface. Given the solid handles and tight tolerances, the force would either deform the handles or be absorbed by the screws and pivot. I doubt it would break, but it would likely develop some character. 11.) Value: given the titanium handles, cpm-s35vn blade steel, unique blade shape and length, this is likely on of the best valued folders on the market.

I received my Bronze Buc today and I am very happy with it! I like the bronze finish and clip contrast color. But, the bronze color is a lot darker than the photo and it is a antique stone washed finish. This knife is well worth the price paid.
It is a very nice knife and just melds with my hand perfectly. You can choke up on it using the generous choil or by placing your thumb on the scalloped portion on the blade spine allowing more control.
The only negative is that the detente is very crisp. But, I also realized that I was inadvertently pushing the lock bar due to me being left handed. I do this a lot on flippers.
