PLEASE!!!!! PLEASE!!!!! PLEASE!!!!! PLEASE!!!!! PLEASE!!!!! PLEASE!!!!! PLEASE!!!!! PLEASE!!!!! PLEASE!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!
Yeah I committed to buy, but kind of hoping it doesn't go thru so I can save 2 bucks and buy directly from their website.
Why is the shipping so high? These are available right now from the Edifier site for $50 with free shipping to the US. Even if the drop goes through, that still comes out to $52 including shipping. Doesn't seem like much of a deal.

When the first drop failed last year, I tried everything to get this, and even the Edifier corporate office and Canadian office said "get lost". So I'm grateful to Massdrop for sticking it out, and not so happy with Edifier as a supplier.
I'm glad this headphone is available again. Though, the shipping cost was less on the previous drop, wasn't it?
My experience with Edifier is, their product produces decent audio quality, but the build is cheap.
Good news group. We’re glad to report that all of the orders have been shipped out from our warehouse and are now on the way to you. Please allow 24-48 hours for tracking to get into the shipper's system and start updating.
If there’s anything else we can do to make your Massdrop experience better, feel free to contact us via “Contact Support” button in your transaction page: https://www.massdrop.com/transactions
We have some good news everyone. Our vendor has informed us that inventory should become available to them tomorrow. They will be working hard to prepare this order for shipment and aim to send it from their location by tomorrow night. We are currently trending for everything to be shipped out of our warehouse by the estimated ship date of 10/9.
Expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 10/13 or sooner if something comes up.
It’s happening! Thanks to each of you, the drop was a success and we have contacted the vendor for the Edifier H850 Headphone and submitted the group’s order. They are now working hard and preparing your orders for shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey, where our team will be standing by ready to break everything down into individual orders and reship them directly to you. We currently expect to have everything out of our warehouse and on its way to you by 10/9.
We will certainly keep you up to date on the process and provide all of you with updated information about the order status as soon as it becomes available to us.
You can expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 10/6.
Just got my pair from Amazon. Edifier doesn't sell any replacement parts for these so you'll have to use a generic 3.5mm-to-3.5mm jack if you want to use a shorter cable since these only come with a 2M long cable that locks. The earpads can be taken out but you can't replace them with say Brainwavz HM5 pads because they're very different. The H850 uses this hard plastic band on the earpads and ridges on the cup to hook and hold the earpads in place.

Couldn't pass up the chance to buy decent cans to take on the road that won't break my heart should they get lost or stolen. My MDR -Z7 and ATH-M50X-BL cans can sit home safe and sound.
Joined! Just one more purchase/commit to go until the the drop will be a success...
I expect these headphones to be an excellent alternative to the popular brands' more expensive offerings, like the Bose SoundTrue around-ear. I wonder how they would compare.
mattris
The H850 is a real hi-fi sound - the Bose is muffled.
How are these vs the HD 419? I already have K553's for home use and want something with more bass for public use, also something >$50.

There is now an Edifier store online for U.S. purchases - not quite as cheap as Massdrop, but close enough if you really need something.
On Amazon, these headphones are $49.99 (with free shipping) from the Edifier Online Store. Do they have an on-ear design?
mattris
These are circumaural, meaning they rest around your earlobe. I was referring to a different pair of headphones when I mentioned hating on-ear headphones. To be precise, I was referring to these: Beyer DTX501p. I listen to Metal, house, and rock&roll
mattris
The only Edifier H850 on Amazon is a used item.
Metal/rock&roll cans?
Just got mine and my first impression is definitely a positive one!
has anyone else in the uk had a customs fee for these headphones?
Just got my H850s. Very nice headphones at a great price. The mids feel a bit recessed but it presents as a very nice, clear and open sound that does not get weary. It'll be interesting to see if they change any after they get some hours on them. They're also quite comfortable for extended listening. Nice! Thank you, MD
Got my H850 about 12 hours ago. The design is superficially very similar to the QC25, although the H850 doesn't have quite the luxuriousness of the QC25. Still, just feel the earpads of the QC25 with one hand and the H850 with the other hand - very very similar. The overall sound is very good - just about as good as the Beats Solo2, much better than the Bose AE2, better I think than the Sennheiser MOE. There's a recess in the mids that gives the H850 an exaggerated spaciousness, and a recess in the treble around 4 khz that reduces the 'presence', so it may sound a little distant or less than alive, but it doesn't have the congestion of most of the on-ear headphones I've had. This is a heckuva deal if the headphone holds up. The bass has fairly good detail down to 16 hz, and the treble detail is good. I'm satisfied.

I'd carry them to school if there were a way to protect them from bumps. The earcups fold flat, but they don't tuck into the headband like some portable headphones. The Beyer DTX501p folds into a very small package and zippered stiff case, ideal for backpacks, but costs more.
dalethorn
I would get them (The're are $40 on amazon right now) but I personally cant stand on ear earphones.
Just got mine in, first impressions so far:
Very very light and comfy, barely feel them on your head, and theyre very compact. They come with a removable cable with a twist lock mechanism, uses a 3.5mm connector so shouldnt be too hard to find a replacement if necessary. I've only listened to them for about 5 minutes, but they aren't drastically lacking in bass or anything, sounds fine in that regard, they even sound slightly warm at first impression, like there's a midbass hump. The bass is a little loose. I expected something tilted to the bright end, but these don't sound that bright so far. No harshness in the treble in the 2 or 3 songs that I've tried. Going to let my ears adjust to their sound signature and listen to more music before I say anything else.

Great news group! The vendor has let us know that the group's order was picked up and is on its way to our warehouse now. Based on the tracking provided these are scheduled to come in tomorrow. Our warehouse team has been forwarded tracking info and will be standing by, ready to get these packed up and turned around as soon as they come in.
Sometimes shipments get delayed en route, not to worry as we will keep the group posted throughout the process and notify you all if anything causes delay.
Thanks for your patience and expect an update from us on 3/30 or sooner if something comes up.
Thanks again for joining this drop! With your help we were able to make it successful for the community. We've just submitted the group's order with the vendor for the Edifier H850 Headphone and they are working hard to prepare it for shipment.
As soon as the group's order is ready at the vendor's location, they will send the bulk shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey where our warehouse team will break it up into individual orders and ship them directly to you! The current estimated ship date from our warehouse is 4/1.
Rest assured that we we will provide you all with updated information regarding the status of your order throughout the process. You can expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 3/26.
These look a lot like "repackaged"/re-tuned Monoprice 8324s with a removable cable. Not a bad thing, they're amazing cans for the $$$.

What do you mean by "the original Japanese version"? Isn't Edifier a Chinese company?
stillseas
Edifier (I think) is the company that bought Stax, and I assumed they were Japanese, but I could be wrong. There are a lot of H850 clones (or OEMs), but my impression from a *lot* of looking is that this H850 is the original. But then, headphones at this price are made in large batches, and there's not even a guarantee they'll sound the same as Goldenears measured. For what I'm paying here I'm hoping for the best, but I'm prepared for disappointment too.
Edit: Edifier is Chinese.
I am excited for these. Been needing to get a a decent pair of headphones for a while now.
Lowest price now unlocked!
I just committed to 2 of these cans for this reason:
"The Edifier h850 received an equal subjective score compared with the Sennheiser hd800 on the Golden ears website. It was voiced by Phil Jones. To bad you can't find them in the states. Phil Jones actually has the same phones rebranded in his own company's line up. A little more expensive than the Edifier's retail price."
http://en.goldenears.net/index.php?mid=GR_Headphones&document_srl=14836
EDIT: I hope this succeeds too because I have a hard time finding these cans being sold in the US.
If Dale says these are good then I trust him, I've read almost all his reviews and I'm a big fan of his youtube channel, the guy definitely knows what he is talking about. The reviews I've read say the same thing, good clarity and neutral but may be lacking a bit of bass. Anyone comfortable with EQ or has an amp with a decent +3db bass boost could remedy that. Plus they look comfy (remind me of Bose QC or AE 2 design, which are supremely comfortable) and they are only $47 shipped to the states. Worth a try I think! (Plus if it matters at all, Edifier acquired Stax)
Committed to join. (If 15 people commit does the discounted price automatically go through?)
Based on reviews, especially the GoldenEars site, the sound looks to be as good as the AKG K712. Just needs a mild bass boost according to most reviews.

Ooo, found your website of text.
Good read.
Yakov
I really hope this drop succeeds, because the last drop failed, and they aren't available from anyone for U.S. delivery.
EDIT: I upgraded my commit to a 'Buy', so I guess that means I'll really get this.
Not expensive enough
If you like deep subbass or a nice bass rumble, these are not for you. They have a midcentric signature with neutral, non very extending bass, bumped up mids and lifted treble.
