Just a little hint if whetstones come up on Massdrop. Please post the accurate grit size as well as the dimensions of not just the stone, but the holder itself. You shouldn't have to go into the discussion to try and find this information. Also, I dislike it when you can purchase items on Massdrop elsewhere online for the same price or cheaper. When I think of group buying, I'm thinking better than retail pricing and only a little above wholesale. There should be some standard like 10% or 20% below the lowest online price. Most retailers are at 100% markup and when Massdrop is only a few percent below that, it seems a little greedy.

I bought one of these a while ago off amazon - I've heard good things about it and have seen Ray Mears using them - it's easily the best pocket/field stone I've used. The diamond side cuts through steel very quickly and the ceramic side will put a good working edge on your knife. The finished result feels like about 2000-3000 grit. The only con is that it's kinda small, which makes it superb for portability, but can make it a tricky to use.
Also, $9.25 shipping to Canada? Yeah, that totally kills this deal for us up north.

xzezIt's $12.95 shipping to new zealand and they will ship it in a box capable of fitting 10 of them in that one box. Great product, price and shipping costs kills it.

I gotta say guys as someone who owns a DC4 and a CC4 from Fallkniven (also a BH9) -
there is no way that the two sides of this correspond to 800 and 2500. The DC4 has seen six months use, primarily sharpening the kitchen knives of friends & family, because the DC4 is small enough to have in my pocket and aggressive enough that it doesn't take long, and as they are not knowledgable about knives this is still sufficient to get it sharp enough to astonish them. (hey, if they're going to be making dinner and I'm gonna be eating it, this is a return favor which I can do while sitting in the kitchen and chatting with them.)
Even after six months use, The DC4 diamond side remains vastly more aggressive than a DMT Dia-Sharp Coarse (325 mesh!) of similar age. It feels similar to an Extra-Coarse. As for the ceramic side, it is also quite aggressive - I'd originally thought it might polish, but heck no. Comparing diamonds to ceramics is never an exact science, but it's definitely rougher than a DMT Extra Fine (1200 mesh) because I can get clouded-mirror with the DMT XF but it goes back to white metal using the DC4.
As for the CC4, similar story - http://www.cliffstamp.com/knives/forum/read.php?7,48582 has pics and goes into detail.
I like Fallkniven stuff, and their sharpening stones are great - just remember, they're smaller and coarser than you may expect.
P.S., yes, I clean my sharpening stuff properly.

yirithat sums up my experience with DC4 too. I use diamond side for maintaining other ceramic stones and only use ceramic side for sharpening. it gives nice toothy working edge but as you say far from polished, hair whittling one. I use mine for little over a year and just today two pieces got separated while washing them with luke warm water, I've heard that is happening so wasn't too dissapointed and I can lap glued side of ceramic and use it as well. that said diamond side was a lot finer after rubing it many time on diferent stones, yet it was still usable for fixing small notches and imperfections.
I'm interested to hear your experience with CC4, thinking of ordering one..

ludibesI have a CC4 and I like it. You'll like it too, since you only use the ceramic side of a DC4 for sharpening. The black ceramic is used for normal sharpening/edge maintenance, and the white ceramic is used for finishing. It's still much coarser than my Spyderco Ultra Fine bench stone, of course, but since this is basically a field sharpening stone that's ok, you don't need mirror finish when you're doing field repairs.
Remember to keep it in the little leather pouch though. I left mine on a desk and then knocked it off by accident - it fell 3 feet onto wooden floorboards and broke in half. I still use it, but it was small to start with so having a 1 inch sharpening stone is a bit annoying.
Eraser works well for cleaning both sides of the CC4. So does AJAX abrasive bleach cleaning powder.

ArchitechAnd today it's up to $22.02. I'm always curious to see how amazon messes with pricing. I wonder if it's per customer, or some other arcane algorithm to maximize profit and sales....

captainIt's definitely not a 'per-customer' thing. Check out CamelCamelCamel.com or other Amazon price tracker sites.

Can buy for cheaper from Amazon. 19.39 from "Poorfish Outdoors", free shipping. Not prime, but probably still faster than massdrop. Beats massdrop after you add shipping to the US.
