Instead of using 65 dollers on a worse looking cable than the original which also doesn't change the sound, donate those money to doctors without borders

Cokeman No, actually IT DOESN'T--what it does balance is their checkbook ;- )

RayFNo one disputes that balanced cables change the sound on some headphones. I don’t think you understand what I’m saying. Nothing to do with price. If you took your stock 6XX cable shipped off the 1/4in and soldered on a $3 4pin connector, that would change the sound equally to this balanced cable.

Cokeman Maybe for you, but not for me. I have the 6XXs and purchased the Van Damm balanced cable to go with them. I could hear no difference between the Van Damm cable and the OEM Sennheiser cable when each was connected to a Jotunheim. I wanted to hear a difference (I paid $70 to hear the difference), but there was no difference.

RayFDisagree. I A/B tested my set on my X7S by using a 4pin to 1/4in adapter to switch as fast as possible, and I can tell a substantial difference between the two. That is not something that can be said about other headphones I've done the same test on such as the HE-4XX and Ether Flow C.

Cokeman It's common to confuse the change in volume with a change in the sound, but it's only a change in volume. In the old days, it was thought that you could prove a person was a witch by casting them into a pond. If that person was indeed a witch, he or she would float. If they weren't a witch, they'd probably just drown. I propose you wear a set of balance cables and I throw you in the same pond. If you float, I was wrong.

RayFIt is not a volume change. I changed it to balance it. And like I said, I don’t think it changes all headphones.

CokemanIt depends on the amplifier, but usually there is 6db volume difference between balanced and non-balanced outputs. The difference you hear is likely just these extra 6dB in volume. You can get the same 6dB from unbalanced out just by turning volume pot.

sergeyuThat’s not it. I adjust the volume to equal. I know louder sounds better.

CokemanDid you measure output voltage or sound pressure to make sure that volume is actually the same? Its impossible to do it properly by ear.

sergeyu@Cokeman I think the final determination comes down to this: we know what we like when we hear it, regardless of how we hear it. If we like it better after throwing a few more dollars at it, so be it.
No need to convince anyone how much we like what we like, the way we like it ;- )
