YtseJammerYeah, honestly don't hear a huge difference between the two. TH-X00 are quite lively with metal but not harsh, one of my favourites definitely.
YtseJammerOut of my current headphones, I'd first probably reach for my Grado SR60e with metal (tried nearly all Grado's but prefer the cheap 60e, go figure!), then TH-X00, then Oppo PM-3 (gorgeous mids though!) then HD800S. If you like bass and treble, go for the TH-X00 (mids aren't as forward). If you like smoother bass and treble and lush mids, the PM-3. The 60e has the perfect crunch with guitars, just enough bass and pretty smooth but detailed treble for a Grado.
YtseJammerI sold my pair of Grado 225e (tape mod) a couple of months ago...big mistake.
Do you hear a difference between the mids of the Purpleheart vs the Mahogany ?
YtseJammerYeah, I always like to keep a Grado around. I had the 325is and 325e recently but sold in favour of the cheap 60e (changed to bowl pads and new headband). I don't own the Mahogany anymore but from memory the differences are very slight. You can also change pads on the TH-X00 which changes the sound, I favour the Dekoni Sheepskin so far.
YtseJammerThanks Mart ! I too love my 60i Grado's. My all around cans....like that I can hear ambient in case. My PH cut me off entirely but in a good way !
