ARRRG! I was already struggling with whether I wanted ebony or purple heart. Now they are both dropping at the same time...
Leaning towards these because I don't have a bass set yet.

WhichwaydidheGoSo I just got these in today, and I have the th900s. I can honestly say that I like the purps because the bass is in your face. Love these cans. So much fun. Fostex makes some legit cans. Although I want the whole line...

qazeqazWanting and affording are two entirely different things though.
For myself, only one is possibly in the cards right now.

WhichwaydidheGoFair enough, I would say go with the Ebony ones then. Last time those dropped was a long time ago. Purps seem to be easier to find. I cannot speak for the sound of the Ebony but from what I have heard they do not have as much Wub Wub, if you will.

qazeqaz If you compare TH-900 with TH-X00 you should immediately hear the difference in bass. TH-900 is much more accurate, especially on higher volume levels and sounds more airy and brilliant. It is more neutral. The Denon D7000 is also better than the TH-X00 in that aspects. Nevertheless, the TH-X00 is a lot of fun indeed.

WhichwaydidheGoMaybe the Emu teak might interest you. Has interchangeable cups you can buy.

WhichwaydidheGoI'm in the same boat, but I need to figure out which one has the less harsh high. I know that I heard the ebony have more of the neutral sound to them, Someone even said the tone was close to the 600's and the PHs are more your 900's. Still don't know though

bjwThe neutrality of the ebony is why I'm leaning towards these. I already have a very neutral headphone.

WhichwaydidheGoNeutral? Look at the f response. A lot of bass emphasis. The most of TH-X00 I think.

tiadOk, I thought so. The bass of the Purple heart is what is drawing me in.
I was referring to the ebony in that post.

WhichwaydidheGoI own the Mahogany version of TH-X00. And this one has a "bloated" bass compared to TH-900 and D7000.
