As someone who is brand new to the audiophile world but willing to spend - would the Lake People G109A amplifier be decent to pair with these headphones?
Also, if I'm playing music from my laptop, do I need a standalone DAC or will the amplifier suffice?

mobboIf these are anything like the TH600, and according to the resistance and sensitivity specifications, they are, then they'll be very easy to drive. Even out of your portable devices or smartphone. The Lake People amp is a great amp capable of huge current output and will drive any headphone on the market except for maybe an HE-6. It would also be complete overkill for the TH-X00. As is the m9xx. A FiiO E10k or better yet, the CEntrance DACport slim will be more than enough for these Fostex. Or just get them and try them from what ever your current sources are. You don't need to purchase a standalone amp/DAC with headphones, as its highly headphone specific if you need them or not. If after you receive them you feel like you aren't getting your preferred listening volumes from your current sources or you are hearing interference/noise, then check out the aforementioned amp/DAC combos. Plenty of choices out there.

whatup69Thank you very much for the informative reply. I like the idea of a smaller amp/DAC combo. What do you think of the FiiO E18 Kunlun Portable DAC/Amp - currently on right now? Or the NuForce uDAC-3 DAC/Amp Combo?

mobboI have used the E18 before and it's a very good unit. Also has a lot of power for a portable amp/DAC combo if you ever decide to get any harder to drive/lower sensitivity headphones in the future. The NuForce headphone amps/dacs don't measure very well so I'd definitely recommend the E18 in this case.

mobboIf you're playing files on your laptop, then unless you always do it in the same seat, you want a portable USB-powered thing, not a desktop one (AC power)... and most laptops have ungood DAC's and wimpy amps... so, I think you want a little portable thing that is both a DAC and an amp.... like the following:

I have had all 3 and FWIW I like the CEntrance one best... others might disagree...
ps: When it comes to this kind of stuff, people *always* disagree... no matter what you wanna get, somebody will tell you to do something else.... so, get used to it ;-)
pps: Also... don't get too hung up on trying to make the absolute best decision... for things like this, there are lots of different good decisions... it's not like every choice boils down to a right decision vs a wrong decision... often, it boils down to which one of a few different right decisions do you wanna make...

mobboIf your serious about getting in to the world of head-fi then this would be a great start. I have to agree that you dont realy need to get something as powerful as the lake people amp, but then again there would be no downside. Its a great amp that will serve you well in years to come! But if your only looking to drive these phones then it might be overkill...
