Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

Companies make the cable long because it is much easier to deal with than if a cable is too short. If a cable is too long, you can braid it, cut and re-terminate it, tuck the extra length away, ect. If the cable is too short, than we have to get an extension cable as we cannot lengthen it easily otherwise.
while in real life, many people are using it in their room sitting at their bed/table with their amp 3 feet away from them.
worse still when we plan to use it with our iphone& portable amp.
how time has changed in the past 10 years, while fostex still in their sofa living room setting when hifiman has $1800 headphone for portable/iphone use :D

And as an example of a somewhat understanding manufacturer - Audio-Technica had ATH-m50 (original) which got like a million complaints about non detachable cable. For a headphone that is used as portable in 50% of cases the stock cable was awful. So they did what they were asked to, without actually understanding WHAT it was. They released ATH-m50x model, with a detachable cable, but with a STUPID almost PROPRIETARY connector jack. Still props to them for trying :P
