FYI, you can find a proper XMOS driver of DAC X7 for Windows10 here: https://download.shenzhenaudio.com/FXAUDIO/ Driver file name is DAC-X7-XMOS-Stereo-USB-Audio-Class2-Driver-3079_v4.13.0.exe To use foobar2000, remember the following setting: 1. Install XMOS Driver 2. Install foobar2000 components: dsdiff, dts, sacd, asio, & etc. 3. Run ASIOProxyInstall-0.8.3.exe 4. foo_dsd_asio setup Playback -> Output: Device set to ASIO: foo_DSD_asio ASIO Driver: XMOS USB Audio 2.0 ST 3079 DSD Playback Method: DoP Market 0x05/0xFA (VERY IMPORTANT!) DSD to DSD Method: None, DSD256 PCM to DSD Method: None, DSD256 5. SACD setup Output Mode: DSD 6.DSDIFF Decoder Setup Playback -> Decoding: Uncheck DSDIFF Decoder Thanks! (Updated on Jan. 05, 2019) After updating my foobar2000 component foo_input_sacd (ver1.1.0), I realized no complicated ASIO setup required any more. 1.Install XMOS driver as above 2.Install compoents as above, and update all component with latest version 3.Run ASIOProxyInstall-0.9.4.exe 4. Set Output -> Device "DSD: ASIO: XMOS USB Audio 2.0 ST 3079" 5. Set Tools -> SACD -> Output Mode: DSD This will be enough for you to enjoy DSD's hi-fidelity.

does anyone know if this dac works well with Windows 7 Ultimate 64? I ask about drivers mainly. Thanks
is there a windows 10 driver for fx audio dac x7?
Since many asked yes you can connect your phone to the dac via micro usb . I have an android (8.1) phone and it worked just fine no problems at all . However the XMOS windows driver provided by szfxaudio is an evaluation driver which will cause a beep tone after 60min every 5 min which renders it completely useless.
Will this function as a volume control for active speakers? How does it react when i plug in my headphones? Thanks
WTF NOV 1st estimated ship. Why would it take so long to ship?
so far so good. Very detailed sound!
The specs of this amp/dac is incredible compared to its price but it seems none interested Why ?
Does this work with iPad and newer Android phones?

If you get a chance, would appreciate it. I'm looking for a DAC amp for my desk at work. It's stationary, but I'd plug in my iPad or phone. Thanks!
I should have mentioned in my response. I actually don't even own it anymore because within 24 hours of use, it failed and I returned it under the manufacturer's warranty (I didn't get it from Massdrop, bought on Amazon)
Is the rear RCA out a pre-out or a line out?
LazySundays
I would have guessed it was a line-out from the dac, but this page suggests it's a pre-out:
https://www.shenzhenaudio.com/fx-audio-dac-x7-dsd256-32bit384k-usb-hifi-audio-decoder-headphone-amplifier-preap-amp-dac-black.html
One of the bullet point features is " With preap amplifier function " (sic). And the 4th image has descriptions of the rear panel connectors, for the RCA output it says "R/L output: connect to 2.0 power amplifier".
It also mentions that only one of the usb ports should be connected at a time, connecting both at the same time will damage the device - useful little tip for owners there!
Did they ever release the driver? I sold mine as it never came out while I had it.
With this will I be able to plug my 2.1 kit at the back and a headphone at the front, and be able to switch between them ? Sorry it's a dumb question but I'm a noob into the audio field

Did you ever find out about this? I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking that Select button on the left may do that.

I didn't bought it so I can answer your question sorry...
Any more reviews based on dac/amp combos in this price range? Did they fix the xmos driver issue?
In case anyone is wondering, this is yet another TPA6120 design, which means the output impedance (of course missing from the specs lists) is roughly 10 ohms.
This would not be a good choice for most IEMs.
Check the impedance of your gear before buying. Non-planar drivers below ~80 ohms may suffer impaired frequency response due to the high output impedance. Most IEMs are below 80 ohms, which is why they are mentioned, but many common dynamic driver over-ears and on-ears are as well.

One other thing, are you not interested in the O2 + Grace combo DAC/Amp as an alternative? It's on Massdrop right now for the next 20 hours, here: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-o2-sdac-dac-amp
At 149.99, I think it would be a worthy competitor... and one that isn't afraid to post their specs either (0.54 ohm output impedance). ; )
Sythrix
Yes, it is something I am strongly considering though the USB and RCA inputs is a bit limiting.
I am also considering going another route and just getting the Cayin N5ii or some other portable player that can double as portable and desktop... I dont think i'll be getting into cans over 300 Ohm anytime soon so it could be worth it.
The portable DAC/AMPs are like Xduoo XD 05 look great but the shipping time, then the iFi iDSD Micro BL cost my kidneys, iFi Nano has no aux in and finicky USB port from what im reading....so yeah i got lots of problems... :)
Is that a balanced 2.5 mm out that I see there?
propdrc
No.
"Interface output : RCA, 6.35 (3.5) headphone"
3.5mm. No mention of balanced.
I have the X6 and it is acceptable in DAC duties, but has a good amount of power in the amp (almost 2X this X7). This X7 has been mentioned in reviews as a much improved DAC, but half the power output. I see this as a good entry DAC AMP, but if you have good cans spending @250 -350 will get you a much better setup. But as a starter, this is a good choice.
Where was this last week when I was ready to buy DX
