Product Description
Modeled after popular Cherry MX mechanical switches, Gateron’s SMD MX switches have amassed an impressive following for properties all their own. Often described as “smoother” or “softer” than their Cherry counterparts, Gateron SMD MX switches are great for those who want an effortless typing experience with just the right amount of resistance Read More

Best budget switches
I bought Gateron Clear, Yellow, and Green. At 23 cents per switch, sometimes even lower, they are perfect for my need. Each type of switch's actuation force, behaviors, and sound levels work as advertised.

Do these gateron switches support RGB or have RGB lighting in them?
LEDs are soldered to a PCB. That is how the LEDs get power. SMD LEDs are used with hotswap boards. Some LEDs passthrough the switch, this makes customization hard because the switch and LED would need to be desoldered to install new switches

Gaterons are gaterons, and these are gaterons. Alt-Cherry feel, not necessarily a downgrade, though cheaper. Had a few duds in my pack of clears but I've experienced that at pretty much all price points. These are absolutely the brand to get when you are new, on a budget, or want to try things that you may. not like in the long run. Price is right.

I used these switches for my first keyboard build. I do not have the Cherry MX Blues to compare to but I do really like these switches a lot. They are a bit loud and defiantly clicky but that is exactly what I was looking for! I hope that in the long run they are durable and last but from what I have seen I have no reason to expect them not too.

I've used Blacks in both of my CTRL boards. A bit of lube helps, but the housings seem tight enough that filming is probably not worth the effort. With these and foam from Stupidfish in the case, I have actually gotten away with using a CTRL at work without annoying my neighbors. I suppose it helps that most people spend all of their time wearing headphones while in Zoom/Teams chats.

Buttery Smooth
I purchased the red switches and compared to a few cherry reds I had, they felt marginally lighter. In general, I think they're perfect for a first build since they're relatively inexpensive! One thing I will say is they are much harder to remove from hot swap boards than Cherry Switches so be careful if that's a priority.

Typical Drop Quality: Shit
I bought 90 of these and 11 of them broke from just putting them in then 7 broke when I tried swapping them out. Disappointed but not surprised. Extremely frustrating.

Works fine but not good for hot swappable keyboard
When I install the gateron yellow switches in my Keychron K2 hot-swappable kayboard, everything is fine. Type on it, feels good. Then I want to try lubbed one. When I try to unplug those switches from my keyboard, they are so hard to pull out and the transparent plastic side is so easy to break. In total I unpluged 28 switches and ended up with losing more than a half of them. I tried to unpluged other switches from my keyboard before, I definitly have some experience, and I 100% believe my way is right. I can only say I will never buy any switches from DROP any more. So disappointed. If you plan to unplug those switches some day, make sure to consider it twice before you buy.

Raining_wuNah, this is more of an issue with Keychron plates than the switches. I have a K2 and a Q1 and they both have bad spots in the plate that are just a couple mm off and make getting switches out almost impossible. Using switches on other keyboards I have go in and out just fine. But on both my Keychrons they always fuck up a few switches because of how inconsistent the hole sizes are on their plates

CLEAR Feels and Sounds Amazing!!
Highly recommend these switches. I've only had the Gateron clear switches so I cannot speak on the others but they are super soft, sounds amazing, and feels great!
