Got the 3L on the last drop. Soon as I opened the plastic casing I was greeted with eau d'new-garden-hose. Before first use I filled with a mixture of water and white vinegar and let it sit for an hour, then rinsed and filled with a mixture of water and baking soda. Let it sit for 24 hours like that (no leaks was good). Dumped the baking soda mix, rinsed well a few times, put some fresh water in and it was like drinking from a new garden hose. Bad enough that it actually irritated my throat. Glad it's BPA free - wondering what other chemical is being leeched into the water.
I reached out to GeigerRig customer service - will follow-up here after I hear back from them.
a-non-y-mous Glad it's BPA free - wondering what other chemical is being leeched into the water.
Probably BPS, or one of the other almost identical BPx chemicals that allows the manufacturer to label it "BPA Free".
UPDATE: The replacement from Geigerrig worked great for a while. A few months in, apparently the garden hose smell/taste started to get stronger and got to the point where the water was irritating my throat. Whatever coating they're using on the inside seems to not be very durable, and the main material seems to be downright toxic. Leaving a review to summarize everything I've experienced here, but as it stands, there's no way I'd recommend this product.
Wow, neither Massdrop nor Geigerrig has done anything to resolve the problem of people receiving the wrong size with the drop from June 2017. This is the last communication I got from Massdrop via e-mail on July 6, 2017 describing the issue as "widespread":
[Name redacted] here with the Massdrop Community Support team. I will be helping you out with this issue going forward as it has become a more widespread issue.
Since this is widespread, I wanted to reach out and let you know that we are working on getting replacements from the vendor. Please let me know if you prefer a replacement or a refund in this situation?
I replied the same day, never heard back from this person even after a follow-up e-mail this week. I haven't received my 3L reservoir nor a refund. And now I see this new drop for the same merchandise that was never properly delivered to me.
Was allocating some of the 136 units for this drop to actually fix the "widespread" issue with the last one not at all a consideration? I see that Geigerrig recently dealt with an IP litigation that slowed down their business dealings, but the way Massdrop/Geigerrig has handled this is incredibly bad.
@Mark M. ? Anyone?
I *finally* got the 3L reservoir. But of course, there was no communication at all from Massdrop that the item had been shipped—I saw the package in the mailbox and that's how I knew what was happening.
I'm glad this frustrating experience happened with a $40 item rather than something very expensive or very limited in quantity. If I decide to buy through Massdrop again, I probably wouldn't trust them with a purchase like a $400 Pelikan pen, for which I'd expect customer service to be way more professional and on the ball.
I like my 3L so much I'd buy another but I don't need it. Used my for about 3 years and no issues. The only bladder I've ever used. Satisfied totally. Use on 3-4 day backpacks generally.
Doesn't seem to fit my daypack. Too long to hang on the hook, at least according to dimensions from REI. 3L multi-day for sure though, my doubts are gone. I find it interesting though, you posted that you barely take the bulb. I thought that was the whole point.. I want one to push water through an inline Sawyer. Supposed to speed up a gravity config too, when filling up containers for camp?
dandelionI haven't used it in the manner you describe. I do push water thru my dirty water bag into the sawyer then directly into the geigerrig while the geigerrig is still in the backpack. There's a fitting for that process sold at REI. Works great. That way, you don't need to remove the bladder from backpack to refill it.
I have a friend who has one of these and likes it, but isn't essentially just a hydrapak reservoir with a pump? My friend's originally came with a filter, so that seems like a distinct advantage, but just adding a pump doesn't seem that significant an addition (for the weight added).
JohnfromMOI have the 2L version, and it's a 2-layer system; 1 layer is the reservoir proper, and holds the water, the other layer is the one that the bulb inflates, thus putting pressure on the 1st layer. So it's not just the usual 1 layer reservoir.
I received a 1.5L version today and contacted Massdrop customer support. I was told this:
I have reviewed your order and it looks like this product didn't come with a manufacturer's warranty, which would be noted on the product drop page. Since we do not have any inventory in stock, I have a couple of other options we can proceed with:
Return for a full refund. (unfortunately, we can not mail a pre-paid return label it would have to be printed out.)
Keep as is with a $5 Massdrop coupon and a partial refund of $18.
Attempt to source a replacement for the correct item with the vendor. Please kindly keep in mind this is a process that may take several weeks.
Please let me know how you would like to proceed and I would be happy to help get the process started.
Could someone at Massdrop please clarify whether I'm going to get a 3L version for free as posted below by @Mark M. (preferred solution) or if I'm going to have to pay to return a wrong product I received due to vendor error?
A minor irritation of dealing with a botched order is now turning into a bigger annoyance from Massdrop's inconsistent responses and willingness to let me take a loss for what is 100% the vendor's mistake. I've worked in warehouse order fulfillment and this is such an amateur hour pick/pack and inventory management error that I don't know if I'd characterize it as a "minor mishap." I'm super disappointed by how this drop went down.
Did anybody else receive the 1.5L version instead of the 3L or is it just me?
haha, was hoping to get this resolved ASAP as we leave for Alaska on Wednesday (7/5)...
"Please note that this specialty team's days of operation are Monday through Friday."
Fantastic. Nice one guys and gals. Great job.
I am in the same position, and they said that they do not have anymore in stock even though this is supposed to be a group buy platform, the estimated ship date listed is July 18, and I don't remember the drop being limited. I also received an RMA, but am now inconvenienced to ship the item back. I wish I received the correct 3L item to save me this hassle. I also don't understand why this happened to several people. This is poor planning and execution.
I would like to thank Massdrop and whoever was working to remedy the mixup that happened in the last drop. I have just received the correct replacement product, which was sent expedited. (I didn't receive a shipping confirmation, but I received the item as a surprise today.) Thank you again, I'm excited to put this hydration bladder to use!
Any chance for cheaper international shipping? Amazon ships this for 10$ internationally, so currently with international shipping it is $2 cheaper on Amazon...
