Taking notes from modern Japanese design, the Ayako is a front flipper that packs a punch. Featuring a blade made of 7Cr17MoV stainless steel, the knife has a tanto point for powerful piercing performance Read More
This knife far exceeds anything else in it’s price range, and it looks good too. Though I’d prefer a more stable locking mechanism than just one piece of the chassis bent over the back of the knife.
I like the knife as a whole but to call it a quick opening flipper knife is very misleading. The blade has a peace of metal attached to the blade that I guess It is supposed to make for quick opening. The problem is it really doesn’t work. I have to open it with two hands. It’s not what I thought I was getting. I would recommend this knife as long as you are not looking for a one hand quick opening knife.if you are this is not the knife for you
Light, strong, sharp blade well worth the price it is being offered at.
I have noticed many of the reviews complaining about the length of the flipper-aid that comes off the back of the blade. Yes, it is a bit longer than others I own, but quite frankly I love it. Yes, it is a little stiff in the beginning, but after use, it gets easier and easier to open with one hand. The blade is very sharp and strong. I have been using it all summer and fall and not only has the blade remained sharp. There are very few visual signs that it has been used as much as it has.
The stock photos are a little deceptive of the length of the flipper aid, but customer submitted photos show it well. My biggest warning would be to be careful when first carrying this life. I typically carry on the outside edge of my front pockets, but this one I need to carry on the inside edge of the pocket. Because of the elongated flipper aid, I have scratched and marred my leather seats in my car as it catches the seat when getting out. Changing the pocket location fixed this problem and it is not so long that it is uncomfortable at all. I highly recommend this as an everyday tool for carrying.
The flipper tab is way too long and sticks out of the pocket, making it difficult to access other items in the pocket. Tip down carry is the only option and it needs to be tip up.
The aesthetic design of the knife is awesome. I love tanto blades and the gray finish adds visual interest without looking too threatening. The aluminum handle feels good in the hand and the frame lock is solid.
What's not to like? The flipper lever. While it might look cool, it's not in a good place for one-hand opening. It also is likely to put a hole in the bottom of your pocket if you're inclined to carry the knife tip up (not the the clip allows that).
Overall, I really like the knife once it's open. It looks cool, feels solid, and cuts well. It's a knife I'd carry in a bag but not so much an EDC in-the-pocket sort of knife.
Looks great, but there is hardly any pleasure in handling it.
The front flipper tab is way too long for one-hand operation, and the action is super stiff.
Even in the official video they use modded version of this knife rather than a stock one.
Typical Gerber stuff.
I am taking a saw to it for sure.
As soon as I took it out of the box I regretted the purchase. The flip tab is far too long and not in a position for a smooth open, not one hand friendly at all. And I just noticed that the pictures show a MUCH shorter flip tab than it actually is. Now I know why Gerber design was so cheap.
Perfect knife to use for work, as someone who uses a knife every single work day this knife is super practical. The build quality and the pocket clip allow for ease of use, the only criticism I have is the need for two hand to close the knife, but otherwise, if you take care of it, it is definitely worth price.
