What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

If only I wanted more ABS sets though. GMK, please somehow design a new process to make similar caps in PBT.
Excluding aesthetics, the most important characteristics are thickness, texture, legend type, then material.
PBT is not noticeably more "durable". It is "harder" than ABS, but this makes it brittle as well. EnjoyPBT/Gateron had a number of instances where their PBT in Cherry profile cracked and broke without applying ludicrous amounts of force in keycap removal. PBT does not resist getting oily buildup; your fingers do not magically produce less oils/sweat on PBT. I still have to wash my EnjoyPBT sets once in a while if I use them extensively for gaming, as the buildup on WASD becomes very noticeable and undesirable, even on such a PBT keyset where the keys are smooth to begin with.
I don't understand how Cherry caps "amplify scratchiness sound of MX switches". Looks like your switches need some lubing or you just need a better switch, because I have GMK and EnjoyPBT on the same board and this is not the case, even with stock "new" Blacks (pretty much the epitome of "scratchiness" on stock Cherry MX). 1.5mm PBT from EnjoyPBT/BSP/IMSTO are already Cherry caps, just like 1.5mm GMK...your point is? Majority of respected 1.5mm PBT sets are in either Cherry or StepScupture 2, so why the distinction between 1.5mm PBT and 1.5mm Cherry?
Yellowing can be conveniently reversed through the retr0bright process, and even considering that ABS does yellow over time, it takes many years before it is apparent. The only HHKBs whose cases have turned yellow are the original HHKB Professional 1 models, which have been around for more than 10 years. My PS/2 G80-3700 was made in early 2000 and was used on-off since then; no sign of yellowing on either the OG Cherry doubleshots or the case.
Point being: you stick to what you like, which apparently is PBT (nothing wrong with that), but do so without feeding misinformation about ABS and fuelling the PBT circlejerk. Cherry's original ABS Doubleshots found on old G80 boards, as well as GMK sets, are just as valuable as original Cherry dyesubs.
