Discover the beauty of guilloche with this bundle from long-standing German pen maker Graf von Faber-Castell. Along with a fountain pen and a set of cedar wood pencils that display this intricate, time-intensive technique, you’ll get a luxurious linen-bound notebook that complements them perfectly. The pen is crafted almost entirely by hand using processes typically used to make fine jewelry and silver accessories. Engraved, lacquered, and repeatedly polished, the precious resin barrel offers a textured contrast to the gleaming rhodium-plated cap and grip section. The pen is complete with a rhodium-plated 18-karat gold nib.
Note: This drop includes a linen-bound A5 notebook and a 3-pack of wooden pencils. At checkout, you’ll have your choice of bundle color (burned orange, electric pink, or turquoise) and nib size (EF, F, M, B, OM, or OB). You can also add a matching 75ml bottle of ink (+ $35).
The guilloche technique originated in the 18th century, and uses a manual diamond-cutting tool to engrave metals with elaborate patterns. Over the years, the craft has been handed down from generation to generation using machines that are operated the same way they were three centuries ago. Rare among pen companies today, Grifos has an in-house guilloche machine that allows its silversmiths to engrave on-site.
Established by Kaspar Faber—who began his career as a cabinetmaker in the Bavarian city of Stein—Graf von Faber-Castell remains a family business today. Now helmed by an eighth-generation Faber-Castell, it stays true to its tenets of quality, tradition, and innovation, and has expanded its line of writing instruments and fine inks to include drawing and crafting products for students and children.
