The watch straps have been shipped to Massdrop! Thanks all for your support. It is fun to be involved in a community that enjoys supporting smaller businesses. I am quite literally a one man operation (with the occasional assist from my wife!) to get this done on top of my day job. It's my creative outlet and it is a lot of work, but I love doing it. So thanks again!
Can I ask where the leather comes from? 'American Made' can be a misnomer if its only assembly happens state side. I presume the tannery is in the US, but just wanted to check?
SamhagenHey! All of this shell cordovan comes from the Horween tannery in Chicago. I make all the straps on my own (one man business!) in Minnesota. The thread is Tiger Thread which comes Germany. The buckles come from China because it is basically impossible to find ANY US made buckles. Unfortunate really!
Just ordered that cool green one. I have never done a leather NATO. I love my BluShark ones, but I thought I should give leather a try. Any advice gentlemen? Any tricks with the leather?
SkipPeMy biggest tip is when you're first "installing" the watch strap, don't try to slip it under the spring bars because you might end up scratching the leather. I recommend removing the spring bars, placing the strap under your watch where you think you will want it to sit and then putting the spring bars back in.
I think you meant 22mm lug width, Maratec SR-3 is 44.8mm lug-2-lug. Why don't you try to mount further from the buckle, so the buckle will wear closer towards you and the strap end will be shorter. No harm trial and error, but make sure not to pressed to hard on the watch and the leather band, it will create creases and hard to reverse back.
