Well, the lack of further follow up from management was rather disappointing.
I hope some of the 30+ purchasers come back to review this with pictures when they receive their knife, specifically showing if the blades are actually stamped as Blue or White steel. Please and thank you 😊
Massdrop. They sent me a email. See below.
Hi,It’s been brought to our attention that there’s a small difference in the type of steel listed on the drop page. We were originally advised that the blade would be white steel but the Japanese print on the blade states that the metal is in fact blue steel. The knife you will receive however is the same as expected. We sincerely apologize for this and are doing everything we can to make it right. Given this inconsistency, we have a few options for you:A.) You can stay in the drop and we’ll ship the knife (blue steel blade) to you as soon as possible.B.) We can cancel your order and issue a full refund. Please let me know your preference by Thursday May 24thand I will gladly get that started for you. If we do not hear back, we will default to order cancellation. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
I think it is not a good drop for blue steel. Is that right?
lhzengAh. That's the email that Mark referenced below
I can't really make that decision for you....it's not totally out of line for prices on other sites..... But i will say this:
1) It's twice the price of the last drop that was advertised as blue steel, just different handles.
2) I didn't get the email because I didn't join at this price when I suspected it wasn't really white steel
I think you can figure out my opinion from that 😉
Koriwa have kanji on blade and it's made from blue steel not white (google it, first kanji means blue).
Higonokami without kanji.. Maybe cheap SK5?
I have higonokami hyorin from dictum.
Smart resolution 👍 Faith restored.
Haven't received a response from the maker on Facebook, but will still update if/when I do.
And don't forget contributions by @gieka 😉
Seriously though, like I said before, I don't think I've ever seen another knife with such widespread misinformation attached to it.... It's crazy! It's no wonder a third party supplier could get mixed up on the details
KavikFirst time i waited ~7days for answer.
After little research:
Higonokami without kanji = cheap non laminated steel.
Higonokami with 本割込 _and_ classic small washer = laminated SK5.
Higonokami with 青紙 割 込 = laminated Blue.
Higonokami with 本割込 _and_ fancier rivet + an ornamented bigger washer /lines on it/ = laminated White.
1BigBadaBoomno that would be a knockoff definitely not the hi grade white OR blue steel, NOWAY at 11 bucks. if you want looks then go for it if you want resale VaLue and quality dont.
Wow..... Just a day after the other drop ended, where people were discussing steel type options.
Wonder how many wouldn't have bought the last one if they knew a white steel version was dropping a day later?
That said, bladehq sells the brown for $80 and the silver and blue for $92, so not a terrible deal here
Edit: $69.40 with free (not prime) shipping from Woodcraft on Amazon for all 3 models
sometimes ..just .sometimes the knock offs are better quality than the original...not very often but it does happen..just knowing and not paying the high price thinking its an original is the rub.
bambam67I can see where the could be the case. It really isn't a hard design to make at all. If I ever get around to trying my hand at making a knife myself i could see this being an easy place to start (or a kiridashi, but definitely this if it's going to be a folder)
But to me the cool part about this knife is its history, not its average functionality...so if i do buy one i would definitely want it to be genuine
