awkCan you give any details about how you noticed it was a fake? I'm considering ordering one from Amazon, but not entirely sure what to watch out for.

peepcReal ones come in a box that looks like this:
search

The smaller and/or cheaper ones come in a green and yellow vinyl pouch. (I believe the ones in this drop will come in a box). [EDIT: these actually come in the pouch, oops]
The one I got came in a black pouch with English writing on it. Plus the knife itself didn't look right, it looked like it was made on a machine. The real ones are handmade and are a little sloppy for lack of a better word, with hammer marks and so forth.
The handle and blade should have Japanese letter stamps, and the blade metal should have a hamon (i.e., layers). Should look like the pictures here.
EDIT: the pictures are correct but the size/finish descriptions are a little off. I believe these were the models offered on this drop: Higo06bl: black steel handle, 90mm body Higo08bl: black steel handle, 100mm body Higo08sl: plain steel handle, 100mm body

awkAwesome, thanks for the detail, that’s really helpful. One other quick question, if you don’t mind: have you had any issues with the hinge/rivet becoming loose over time? I noticed someone complaining of this in an amazon review.

peepcIt can come loose... it's just a rivet. You can tighten it with a hammer. You can also try bending the handle slightly in strategic places (it's just a piece of bent sheet metal).
The sides of the handle are usually somewhat convex.... on one of mine I squeezed them so they were flat and parallel, but that made the pivot really loose, and I tried bending the corners of the handle in slightly, and that made it stiff when it was open or closed, but loose in between. Of course it would probably come loose again if I used it regularly. It's not really a practical EDC knife.

TAsURead my entire comment (yes I was wrong thinking this one would come in a box, but I explicitly mention they can come in these pouches). I also describe what the knife itself should look like.
