So I was sent an advanced set of these (the CAN and DAC signature) from ifi. I have a bit of a love affair with the ifi Zen DAC Combo since for $130 prime shipped I don't think you can do better even CLOSE in that price range. So a $500 stack version was interesting but I thought it would gut the foundation of that cheap diamond in the rough. Luckily for me I came to realize the amp on its own for $250 works on so many things, not just the 6xx, and does a DAMN good job powering everything. So if you skip the DAC half, if your OCD can handle that, the CAN part is perhaps the finest thing ifi currently makes. The 3D / 6xx button isn't quite as universal as the Bass boost on the ZEN DAC combo, but is has similarly addictive properties if you find the right headphone... I firmly believe my HD600 (not just 6xx) have never EVER sounded as good on a Solid State amp before. And unlike other ifi magic switches these are subtle. I don't feel like I am cheating on my audiophile goals or ruining someone else's goals of neutrality/uncolored sound above all. THAT SAID, the dac is also a pretty wonderful piece of kit. I saw that they added a $90 option for a 4.4 jumper to go between the two (which FEELS pricey) but I couldn't find anywhere else. So all my assumptions are based on just RCA feeding the Zen CAN Sig from the Zen DAC Sig. With its dedicated volume knob I can 100% see this being the go-to USB dac for Powered speakers or desktop power-amp users (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!) as it sort of dominates the facade with that knob, which you can bypass, but who doesn't want a nice knob. I haven't been asked to return them yet. So I will probably have some cables made to access the Balanced sides of the Dac and CanAmp to assess some more. ifi really has come quite the way in terms of price to performance and this right now sits atop their hierarchy of products in my book. The 789 is going to be a distant memory if amps like this pop up. Thank you for coming to my TED TALK, here is the review where I curse and wave my hands around. (Please Note the Dates are SLIGHTLY OFF due to ifi delaying the launch and not Drop, for the first time ever) https://youtu.be/QLH4bMvaMag

Zen Can here in AU is A$270 ~ US$185.... way cheaper than the drop product @ AU$ 370 US$250 and looks exactly the same with same power output.... seems people are being ripped off... Drop brand ain't what it used to be

ZeosSo the amp by itself is wonderful and with a DAC, the stack is extra wonderful? Is that the executive summary? Thanks.

Hi all, we just wanted to share more info on the two products. Whilst they are not mutually exclusive and can certainly work standalone- the best set up to drive your HD 6XX is to have both. Let us explain why: THE ENDGAME SET UP- ZEN DAC Signature + ZEN Can Signature 6XX + Drop HD 6XX
(TL;DR)  Your Sennheiser HD6XX headphones give you a smooth, laid-back presentation. Its neutral response provides a pleasant listening experience with any music genre. Though connecting to a laptop or average digital converter/headphone amplifier will always mean the last 20-30% of the full potential is not fully realised.

The 'endgame' solution is the iFi dedicated ZEN DAC Signature and ZEN CAN Signature 6XX. These premium versions of the ZEN series were uniquely developed for Drop customers.

This magical combination means Drop HD 6XX* enjoyment is ‘turbocharged’ to eleven:

  • ZEN DAC Signature gives far superior music enjoyment from TIDAL Masters to Spotify. Instead of average audio quality in your phone, tablet or laptop you get music quality that befits the best setups. Built with the best components such as Sanyo OSCONs, it is a premium version of our ZEN DAC
  • ZEN CAN Signature 6XX is the only one on the market with dedicated equalisation and 15v@300 Ohms output power. Both of which are a bit special. All underpinned by boutique components such as Elna Silmics II.

Before, your HD6XX sounded a bit like using a Mini to pull an Airstream.

You are moving, but always wishing if you could ‘floor it?’
With the iFi combo, as the saying goes, ‘there is no replacement for displacement’ so the ZEN DAC Signature and the ZEN CAN Signature give you turbocharged sound quality AND oomph to properly drive your Sennheiser HD6XX.

When you ‘drive’ your Sennheiser HD6XX with the premium DAC & CAN Signatures, the full potential will be realised. We are talking 15v at 300 Ohms which gives the poise and power not found anywhere else.       *Please see Compatibility chart to check other models.

Hope this helps, as always any questions please!

I actually was able to pick up the Signature stack for $170 each on ebay costing $340 which I find more reasonable. already owning the regular IFI Zen Can and Dac stack, I was able to compare the sound difference. After going back and forth with both stacks, I must say the Signature Can does sound much better then the regular Can. I can hear the sound is fuller and brighter on the Signature stack and the bass is also more pronounced. I needed to have bass boost on all the time on the original Zen Can, to get what is the normal sound of the Signature Can, which offered a richer fuller sound. I actually shipped back the normal IFI Zen Can/Amp back.

Now I utterly shat on the dac... and I will pretty much shit on this just a bit less... but nevertheless I will shit on this. These individual units are the typical ifi insult to the community. They're more than welcome to try and convince me otherwise, but honestly I really don't feel this merits not just getting something like the zen dac or literally any other amp and dac combo. Sure I love the zen's bass boost feature and it is one of the most well done, until you crank it into high gain of course... But basically this feels like what the zen dac should've been. I feel like they've basically pulled a reverse hifiman by having the more shite product get released first. Only for them to release a newer signature version of the very same thing, conveniently split up into dedicated units (surely for your convenience of course). Now I agree that typically dedicated units can do a lot more of the one thing that an all in one can only do a part of quite well. And in the world of audio I find that this isn't always the truth. In this case it seems like a half ass attempt with "more features" for something they should've just put on the original model. Maybe even making a higher tier version of the original model and not try to separate the zen unit into two pieces and charge retarded fucking prices for. I mean that 4.4 jumper for 80usd? Fucking really? Those are almost simple to make and a very high quality one can be sold for almost nothing and still maintain a profit. Goddamn this whole drop pisses me the fuck off.

I'm glad you feel that way. Going from the SE to the Bal outs of the various DACs I own tells me you're over complicating things just a tad. I'll leave you to all that, please by all means. To keep things layman, simple, sweet, and easy. Balanced out 'gon give you more loud makings of them audio pixies. Whereas them RCA kajiggers don't do no good with makin' things loud where an amp is concerned. If I gave the slightest of shits about all of what you've just rambled off. Then I would go lab tech on my gear and ensure none of it became an issue for me. I only care about a higher voltage throughput which should result in a higher gain to the signal amp side. Which in the end (for me) means less cranking up on the amp's relative gain toggles. This depends highly on the amp of course, but I am sure you get the idea. Now, now... I am not without understanding on my end. I am sure for all intents and purposes there are those out there that might actually care about the techy, jargony bits you just prattled out. The end result for the bulk of us that do this as a hobby for find, rather than an obsession, surely find that balanced out (DAC side) ='s a more loud end result. That's quite simple and sweet, rather than over analyzing what I said and trying to break it down into what you did. You should've read the room, so to speak, and tried to discern what it was I was wanting from that kind of connection. The Benefit of what ifi is doing is trying to line their pockets and being royal knob bites.

Hey all, It's Julie from iFi again. I dropped some info over on the ZEN DAC signature product page and thought would be good to share this compatibility chart here for the ZEN CAN Signature 6XX. Also, if youd like to check out the following thread, we are sharing the fuller indepth tech there: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/ifi-audio-zen-can-signature-6xx-zen-dac-signature.936743/post-15742054

PotatoPoweredThey said "Due to an error at checkout, we have cancelled your transaction and issued a full refund to your original form of payment method" and "As an apology for any inconvenience, we have issued a $10 Drop credit to your account which will automatically apply at your next checkout" How come an error caused by Drop and the final result is, just canceled the order on their discretion and issued the credit, even not admitted as a compensation for it?? As we have paid it, an AGREEMENT have made and they need to complete it. As the past examples for Amazon and others, they need to fulfill the order.

siliwayThis is an excerpt from their terms of use: "Drop may, in its sole discretion, choose to not process or to cancel your order in certain circumstances. This may occur, for example, when the product or service you wish to purchase is out of stock or has been mispriced..." Even if that weren't in their terms though, I think online retailers have a lot of leeway to cancel orders on mispriced items, especially if customers should have known the item was mispriced.

$89 for the 4.4mm interconnect between the Amp and the Dac is going to be a deal breaker for many. This one was only $22►www.Amazon.com/dp/B08279BFXS surely iFi could of had these made for much less and supplied one if you buy the combo.

GB7899100% agree. I love iFi (just got a hip-dac for fun portable use) and I have plans to get myself an iESL sometime, but geez, a lot of other manufacturers might have simply included the cable required to connect their equipment together.

If i order this, can i just get a EU plug adapter and the iFi audio iPower X power supply will work just fine or do i need to buy another 5 DC powerbrick?
Thank you replying Augustini :-)

Actually that is surprising for me too since German customs/postal forwarding delayed the delivery by nearly a week. However, I was one of the very first to order one... or just lucky.

begineringThis costs twice as much, is just an amp, more power, better parts, I'd say its 50% heavier (which I didn't mention in the review). Multiple Gain settings, Off switch. Its the upgrade of that for sure.

Some sort of post here by Drop or iFi would be nice to at least let us know what the situation is. If the shipping date has changed, fine. I don't even need a reason/excuse, I would just like to know by when. Some of us have been waiting since July for this stack when we could have just canceled this order and gotten the Zen Can within days. A little courtesy here in terms of communication seems like the least both companies could do.
