The newest offering from iKon, the X3 Slant DE safety razor is tough on coarse beards but easy on sensitive skin. It’s made of machined aluminum and based on an early-1900s design that mimics the efficiency of a guillotine—talk about a close shave! Read More
Pics and comparison against my Merkur (MK 23C). First thing I noticed is that the handle is pretty heavy. It's was about 3.8 oz compared to the Merkur at 2 oz.
Noor2017It might be better on the skin. With a safety razor, you get clean cuts in the same direction, as well as an exfoliating effect on the skin. Electric shavers, for me, left me with inconsistent stubble and irritation.
Noor2017I just switched from Gillette cartridges and after frightening my wife twice with a raw face I have gone from strength to strength. You must buy him Cremo Menthol shaving cream and Razorrok Dead Sea aftershave plus a moisturiser if his skin dries.
I have the stainless Feather and the Closed comb stainless Blackbird. Both are outstanding. Both need different techniques. The Blackbird needs a tiny bit more care and needs more frequent blade changes and is more sensitive to the shaving cream. Since I started using Cremo menthol it gives closer shaves than the Feather. It also has a heavier head so you can let its weight literally do the shaving for you, it looks very cool and is more enjoyable to use. The Feather is less sensitive to other parameters so its the easiest to use, but I prefer the Blackbird and will be putting the Feather up for sale. I am interested to see how the slant bar Ikon X3 shaves. It has outstanding reviews and comes out better than the Above the Tie Slant. My only worries are :1. The aluminium head which will be light so perhaps I will miss the weight of stainless steel -others have noted this- and 2. Aluminium is a toxic metal and shaving with it right on raw skin may not be the best idea.
Thank you! Too unisex for me, but it's all a sign of ridiculous political correctness where it's increasingly difficult to find masculine smelling one. What do you expect in a society which removed Robert E Lee's statue and wants to do the same to Nelson's column?
If you're thinking about this, do it. Not only is this a great deal on the head and handle, but it's a WONDERFUL razor.
I own one of these amoungst other styles of razor, and this became an instant favorite the moment I used it. Everything else just kind of collects dust now.
The thing that might be to watch for - the stainless handle and the aluminum head - dissimilar metals. There may be a reaction so it is probably best to store the head and the handle "disconnected" to avoid corrosion of the aluminum.
CatoAfter going through a couple sampler packs, I like Rapira Platinum blades. I found Personna Blue and Polsilver were also quite nice but I liked the Rapira as much or more and they can be found quite cheaply. FYI I have a quite coarse beard, like little copper wires, and really mild razors (superspeed) or really thin whippy blades (like Feather) snag and irritate.
CatoReading the below it proves you have to try a few combos. I agree with the below that the feather razor ASD2 is not as good as the closed comb Blackbird and for the same reason. However the Blackbird struggles round my chin whereas the iKON X3 does the chin but is less smooth although gets closer with the feather blade. However another reviewer says he finds the iKON feather combo too aggressive. The Blackbird does not get in at all with the rapira platinum. For me. A blood bath. Blacklands are bringing out a slant soon. The iKON X3 is tremendous value for money and blows away most razors including ATT S1 and Muhle Rocca and the Razorrok. Just test out the blades with a combo pack
Got the razor last night and had to try it. I purposefully did the worst stuff. Several day growth, no shower, no beard softening, no shaving cream, warm, not hot, water, only cremo.
Two pass and buff on the spots on my neck where the hair grows in different directions. I'm impressed. This razor is really good.
AndreyHad a smooth shave, given that I rarely ever shaved before due to my sensitive skin (before I used to use gillete mach3, fusion and all made my skin break out and flare up). So to my suprise, using Ikon #102 slant razor and only noticing slight redness around neck (where the hair grows in all different direction), I gave Ikon #102 slant razor a passing marks. BTW, I paired #102 slanted razor with feather Hi-stainless blades since that drop had Super-Max blades (Good job Ikon on offering better blades this time).
Found out about this deal on a FB forum. I have never made a purchase through Massdrop. I'm not holding my breath until I receive tha razor but wondering on a ballpark estimate of when we may receive it.
