Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. What is the differnence between the DCS and the DSA keycaps? As a person with no soldering experience, how difficult/easy will assembly be? Will this drop be featured again? if so will there be printed keycaps? will there be an aluminium case? will there be an option to buy it pre-assembled?
I'm curious about the aluminum case as well. I'd really like one.
I wouldn't count on there being printed caps offered as standard. I think these caps are the same ones offered on all the past ErgoDoxes. Most people who use the Dox use a non "standard" layout anyway, so it would be too hard to get everyone to agree. If you want printed caps, I would recommend getting the board without caps and picking up the granite drop that's going on right now. Keep in mind, you will need to combine a couple of different options in the drop to get a complete labeled set.
