What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

But that doesn't excuse them from keeping us, their customers, in the loop at least a little.
Lets be a little realistic here, they currently don't even have a working prototype. I am sure MD had some internal milestones they set for the production of this product. I am pretty confident that having a working prototype was planned to be completed sooner then a week before the estimated ship date.
Once they missed that they should have let the community know. Do dates get missed? Sure. I don't think that anyone in the group buy would be outraged to hear that the timeline had to be pushed back a little. We all appreciate that this is a large order for an all new revision of the ergodox and it will take time.
I think that people are more mad to hear that they are much further behind then planed, mere days before the estimated ship date. Especially when people have been posting everyday for the last week or two asking for an update.
I am glad that Massdrop wants to make sure this thing is made right. I applaud them for pushing back the ship date to make sure the parts from their supplier are exactly what they are expecting. In the end we all win by waiting for the product to pass quality control.
All I am looking for is a little communication about what is happening with my order when we collectively paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for a product.
