Providing optimum audio quality for both beginners and professional engineers, the JBL LSR305 features a design that is heavily inspired by JBL’s flagship M2 Master Reference Monitor. Engineered with similar technology such as the Image Control Waveguide, the LSR305 Studio Monitor provides the listener with neutral and accurate playback.

Design and Function

The unit is a 5” bi-amplified powered studio monitor with two Class-D amplifiers; one for the low frequencies, and one dedicated to the highs. A magnetically shielded 5” low frequency transducer and a 1” soft-dome high frequency transducer are also included in the monitor’s design. On the rear panel there are dual balanced XLR and 1/4” TRS inputs and individual trims for LF and HF, -2db and +2db for maximum versatility.

Sure! Google "Monoprice 1/4in (6.35mm) TRS Stereo Plug to RCA Jack Adapter, Gold Plated" and you can score a pair for about $0.80 plus shipping. Add to it a pair of RCA interconnects -- Monoprice is a good source for basic ones like "Monolith by Monoprice 3ft RCA Cable" -- and you are in business. (You would need to order two of these.) I ordered my interconnects from Emotiva and do like them. Just make sure that the interconnects are two completely separate ones rather than a pair fused together. Now, I'm going to blow your mind. If I put my ear an inch from the tweeter, I can hear a tiny bit of amplifier hiss. Interestingly, I hear more hiss on the speaker where I am using an extension cord with the included power cord. If I switch to my premium power cord that made clear improvements to my DAC, the hiss is more audible and more complex. Cables do matter! If I plug the speaker directly into the wall or into one particular power strip, the hiss is louder and more complex. If I plug into another power strip, it's much better. HOWEVER, none of it is perceptible as far as I can tell at this point for anything like normal listening. You might have a hissy speaker, or you might just have a grungy power supply or power strip, or both. You should experiment a bit and maybe try an inexpensive power conditioner intended for audio that you can return if it doesn't help. Or you could listen to another pair at a pro audio outlet near you -- take your current ones with you for comparison -- and sell the ones you have if they are fundamentally flawed. Good luck taming that hiss!
